I like to pan fry a steak in an iron skillet, searing it quickly and serving it very rare. Well, in the 5 minutes it takes to cook a steak, it makes a little smoke and the oversensitive smoke alarms go off. That triggers an automatic call to the fire department and alarm monitoring company. The god damned fire department is literally 2 minutes away and by the time I can call the monitoring company to cancel, a fire truck is sitting out front. This happened soooooo many times, I started getting twitchy when I thought about cooking a steak.
I even tried opening the damn windows and doors before cooking a steak . . . still, a firetruck ends up sitting out front. It's just not right to take a away my ability eat meat cooked the way I like, so I was going to have the thing removed. The slave begged not to have it disconnected in order to save the pets from fire if we are away. So I had the alarm company adjust the damn thing, but to no avail... yet another firetruck. With insurance rates and the pets in mind, I left the smoke detector in place. Because I live in sunny Florida, I have no trouble tossing my steaks on the gas grill outside anytime of the year and that is even better than pan frying.
So yeah, dinner is ready when the fucking firetrucks pull up.
