Oh my god!!!!!!!

I remember that guy.

Bob Ross.

I used to watch him when I was little, like real little.

When I got home from nursery school, my mom would fix me some spaghettios and I watch the Freindly, Friendly Giant, followed by the Flintstones (on CHCH TV out of Canada) while eating my Spaghettios while my mom went into her bedroom to nap. Mr. Dressup came on after the Flintstones but I didn't like him so I'd switch over to channel 17 and watch Bob instead. I don't know why, I just liked him. After Bob Ross I switch the channel again (channel 29, the local UHF station IIRC) to watch the Brady Bunch but would usually doze off myself before long.

Thanks for bringing back some good memories.

Unfortunately those memories may now be forever sullied because, as I write this, I am playing the video I linked above. I can hear it but cannot see it and... most unfortunately... it sounds like the man is fapping himself.

Whatever. Bob Ross was one of a kind. We lost him way to soon. May he rest in peace.

That's weird. We must be in the same region, because he used to be on WNED 17, and 29 was the 'mystery' station here before it went into the Fox network. I miss Bob. So calming, it's hard to believe he used to be a drill sergeant in the Air Force.

I checked your profile and we are definitely in the same region, I'm in Niagara County. I've been a Western New Yorker all my life. Go Bills (wide right!), Go Sabres (No goal!), Chicken Wings (NOT Buffalo wings), Beef on Weck (though, to be honest, I really don't care for horseradish), etc, etc.

I've never heard that. It is hard to believe but on the other hand there is documentation that he had violent tendencies.

MasterCaneman -> RE: TRAIN WRECK!!! (9/27/2013 12:32:16 PM)

I vaguely remember a SNL skit where he had a flashback to Vietnam, think it was Will Ferrel. And I've racked my brain as to where I saw where he was an AF drill sergeant, maybe Cracked? Not sure. And it's just not Beef on Weck without horseradish, but it's a personal thing. [:)]

Thank heavens for Bob Ross, and inspiration, a giving man, a more giving artist, and a much more giving soul.

And many thanks to MasterCaneman for posting that.

Wikipedia. ... Bob Ross

Ross enlisted in the United States Air Force at age 17. The Air Force transferred him to Elmendorf Air Force Base[citation needed] (in Alaska), where he first saw the snow and mountains that later became recurring themes in his artwork. He developed his quick-painting technique in order to be able to create art for sale in brief daily work breaks.[4] Having held military positions that required him to be, in his own words, "mean" and "tough," "the guy who makes you scrub the latrine, the guy who makes you make your bed, the guy who screams at you for being late to work," Ross decided that if he ever moved on from the military, "it wasn't going to be that way any more," vowing "never to scream again."[4]After studying with Bill Alexander, Ross discovered that he was soon able to earn more from selling his work than from his Air Force position. Ross then left the Air Force and became famous worldwide hosting the television program, The Joy of Painting.[1]

Bob Ross was amazing. His ability to load several colors on a brush at once, then take one stroke on the canvas and paint a fully shaded tree trunk or a distant cluster of trees always amazed me. And his voice was hypnotizing. He was always talking in that strange tone like someone talking to a puppy. You know, that non-aggressive, everything's alright because I am safe and calm type of doggy voice . . . and he said shit like "happy little trees" and it didn't seem weird or psychotic at the time he said it.

I think the government put a secret subliminal mind control transition wave in the Bob Ross shows to mass hypnotize citizens. I swear that's why I watched that show, it was a government conspiracy I tell ya'.

I remember seeing that more than once. It was amazing, he'd do his show in what appeared to be one take, and when they panned back, he'd jam out these amazing pieces. I wonder what happened to all of them?

ResidentSadist -> RE: TRAIN WRECK!!! (9/28/2013 9:27:21 PM)

^ Funny you should ask. That was my thought too/ He must have cranked out thousands of paintings and I wondered what they were worth/ I saw one up on ebay for $8,495.00.

He never sold a painting, when he died, his works went to charity and PBS. He never made a dime off any of the shows he did for PBS, his money came from the earnings of his company.

He was also a retired Air Force Master Sgt. GO figure.
