Ok. Someone. Anyone. Please tell me how YOU got through this. It's only been a month but I am having one hell of a hard time with this. [&o] I have come to the conclusion that I don't like this one bit. It's not depression...it's just that the house is so QUIET now and I keep looking around for the youngest to find out WHY it's so quiet. It's driving me nuts. Edited because I can not spell today.

Well........I have three dogs and one loud male human. My house is never quiet. The human is louder and more annoying but he does leave a bit less hair on things.

My (now ex) husband left the military before I did and became an over-the-road truck driver. Before that, we had worked and of course lived together - I was used to him being around 24/7. Faced with the prospect of him being gone for weeks at a time, I got a part-time job in addition to my full time job and signed up for classes two nights a week. I also had girlfriends who took me out drinking. IOW - I coped with his absence by massive over-scheduling.

Oh, I know about the deafening quiet. If you beat getting over it in a month, I will bow to your overcoming empty nest skills. Stupid stuff that I did...... Turned the tv on for background noise, even though I wasn't really watching it. Reminded Myself regularly that I had additional freedoms when going out or even doing things at home. Did a LOT of yapping and laughing on these message boards. Started talking to My cats as though they were children. Took on a couple of extra casual play partners. (That one is not for everyone. [8D]) Hang in there. You really do get used to it.

I can't take on extra jobs because the one I have is 24/7/365 on call as it is...AND...we are restricted to how many hours we can put in for health reasons ( a policy I whole-heartedly agree with ). I don't drink, so getting drunk is out of the question. I don't do drugs, so that's nixed. I don't do casual sex, so that's a dead horse. Dayum. I am so screwed [:o]

I think you should get a more talkative breed of cat.. like Maine Coon or Siamese/Oriental. Then you can have lots of conversations, about all kinds of topics.

It's been two years since I've been going through the empty nest syndrome and honestly, I'm still adjusting. A couple of days ago, it was late at night and I was tiptoeing throughout the house and trying to be as quiet as possible. Then I stopped in my tracks and said....why am I being as quiet as a mouse??? It's just me here lol. I got so used to being quiet so I didn't wake my daughter that I still do it on instinct. I admit I still miss her at times. It's just way too quiet and it gets lonely. But there are other times where I'm like Woohoo! It's quiet and no arguing and slamming of doors! [:D] Then there are days where I forget that I can do anything I want now. I don't have to worry about being home by a certain time to make sure she has all her stuff for school ready or I have to take her to a doctor's appointment or school function and stuff like that. There are times when I go out at night and I keep thinking "I need to be home by 10" until it dawns on me that I don't need to hurry to get home. I can stay out as long as I want. And I can do whatever I want now. I can travel and do all the things I always wanted to do...but what are those things now? I've completely forgotten and I have no clue now. I wish I could give you better advice. Unfortunately I'm going through the same myself. [&:]

[:D] I detest yard work(grew up in the sticks and parents had a big yard....fucking big yard...like an acre and a half.....)and I break windows better then I clean em But I am a great cook, beef burguignon and Chicken Mole are my best dishes, but I can also scrounge up an awesome pizza,curry stir fry,cheap spegati awesomeness,"Spread"aka county style ramen. ect.ect. Heck, I can even gut and dress most critters from scratch,mind you I tend to make a mess of it.
