Not sure if anyone's heard about a book called '50 Shades of Grey'..

Now it's going to be a movie. .. or rather.. two movies.

Here is the casting call for the UK version.

Thoughts? Comments?

Eep!!

Straight to DVD and then I can watch it on Movies for Men.

Maybe there's a positive to it? Maybe fewer people will believe the content is real, rather than fiction, if it's a movie. You know what they say about people believing everything they see in print.

An independent might actually make it worth watching.

I like the way it says 'minimum acting experience needed'.

Kinda matches the author's 'minimum writing skills'...

Can you tell I hate those wanky formulaic bodice-rippers? [:D]

It's never going to end is it?

While there's enough books to set people straight on the reality of BDSM and D/s, there's not nearly enough movies. I remember looking when I was younger for movies to watch. They're few and mostly all mediocre.

There will be a Hollywood version as well. I vote for Michael Fassbender as Christian Grey.

Well, how I saw it over here was that the fuss over the shitty books only got started because of the announcement of the films being made.
There were rumours that they wanted Channing Tatum to play the main part, so as he's pretty hot right now, there was a bit of a fuss about it.
I'm still a bit peeved that the shop The Works(my favourite shop for newer books) had to end up stocking them, though I was quite pleased when I saw that the advert for them in the window didn't stay for long.
I get the impression that they were a bit ashamed to be stocking such awful twaddle. From what I've read and heard, the children's books they stock are written better than they are, so it's fully understandable... [8D]

Well, I saw Magic Mike. If I can live through the shame of being one of hundreds of oversexed (near) middle-aged women crammed into a movie theater to get a slice of a life never to be realized, then certainly I can endure 50 Shades.

I think.

The World is suddenly a more crowded place. On the upside, maybe I could write some dreck, and...

No, wait, I do that already.

I had to laugh when I read this. Thankfully I did not have a mouthful of coffee at the time (yes, I slept in today).

We can't even agree within the confines of this forum what constitutes the reality of BDSM. You're really going to rely on Hollywood to do it?

Really?

If movies are made they will be like
soft porn on cable movies. That level
of acting and production values.
I don't think they'll be sexy I think
they'll be howling bad movies that
might be redeemed ala Showgirls
for their campiness.

No way is any A list actor go to be a
part of this kind of thing. They'd never
live it down. One of things that tanked
Mickey Roarkes career was going down
the Zalman King road with Wild Orchid.

The movies if they get made will be
of the same quality as the books and
just as derided. I doubt they will have
much success at the box office assuming
they don't go straight to cable and DVD.
By the time movies are made and
released this thing is going to be on
the downslide. It's already peaked and
people will have for the most part moved
on to something else.

i think it's great that someone capitalized on sort of mainstreaming BDSM a bit. stupid people will always believe dramatized stories are really true and happened, so i'm not too worried about the effects of such a film. i.e., my ego and self value won't be affected. i would be dismayed if such a film was along the theme of hatred and bigotry, and was stirring up that kind of sentiment.
