Lucifyre -> Speed Walking SUCKS! (8/6/2012 8:18:08 PM)

I just have to say that I hate it and I will never like it and it doesn't feel nice and FUCK why does it have to HURT and make me sweat so much!

blah

So, since I got my surgery date I have been speed walking every night for an hour (it's been just over a week)
I've lost 2 pounds so that's good but DAMN HELL CRAP SHIT SUCK! I HATE it!! I know it's good for me, but I still hate it.

Ok, I'm done whining now...for a minute.

This shit better be fucking worth it.

Why speed walking? Why not roller skating, or some thing that you like more?

It does hurt less, or at least differently, the more you do it. [;)]

Eta: oh, and congrats on the surgery, way exciting!

Don't own any rollerskates...though i did think of that this evening while I was out cussing...I mean walking LOL!
Cripes it's been 25 years since I had a pair of skates on, I'd probably fall and bust my ass haha!

I've only got a few more days that I can walk like this before surgery Monday. Then I'm down for a few days then I gotta take it <way> fekkin easy for a few weeks while everything stitches itself back into place. I might be able to do skates in about a month. but I doubt it.
Dr said I won't even be able to swim for 3 weeks (I have a pool and I'm gonna miss it like crazy!)

I was watching a video of a tummy tuck this afternoon...gonna have 40+ stitches in the muscles. It's gonna hurt as badly as my hernia surgery did if not worse...that was only 16 internal stitches and that took me 8 weeks to not have any more pain. GG when they popped I thought I was dyin...these ones aren't going to pop like that, they will stay tight <ouch>

Dammit I said I was done whining LOL

You'll get through this fine, doll... remember you wanted it! Just remind yourself of this when it gets horrible!

Actually the most likely scenario is I will come here and be a big baby and cry and whine and post 50 different threads about how miserable I am...until one day I look in the mirror and see how hot I am...then you guys are in for it cuz I has camera!

If I was you I'd take up hiking, you can
walk whatever speed yo want and dam it's
so good to get out in nature, very therapeutic
I guarantee you one good hike a week is
awsome fitness and it doesn't feel like your
exercising to me, it's exploring!
crossing creeks, climbing hills, fun fun fun.

And after a while your calf muscles, down right
put people to shame.

I'm a competitive cyclist and a sports climber and so power walking and hill walking is really good for my calf muscles. Power walking is a much lower impact sport than jogging. I deliberately don't jog much because it fucks up your knees.
I broke my leg three weeks ago in a climbing accident so all these things are off limit for a few more weeks but I was pleased when the doctor told me my knees have no signs of ware and tear.

As soon as you are over your op Lucifyre, keep power walking or trekking and keep swimming. Its very important for your skeleton to do both impact and none impact exercise.

Lucifyre -> RE: Speed Walking SUCKS! (8/7/2012 7:52:25 AM)

I am unable to do much impact anything. My joints are all messed up and the best I can do is things like power walking or swimming...LadyHib's idea of skating though would probably be ok after I'm recovered. But running...oh gads no way, that would probably kill me.

Aries: I live in Florida...it's really really flat here LOL. I wish there was somewhwere pretty to go "exploring" because believe me, I would be there.
I remember when I was younger before I met my husband, there was a place just north of Santa Cruz California that my then bf and I used to go. I LOVED walking around in the redwoods. There was so much beauty to experience...not just see, but experience....the creeks and the trees and just everything, it was majestic! There was also a place somewhere in Oregon we went that had hot springs....such a beautiful place.

Anyway, I'm not worried about my legs, I have fantastic legs ;) Right now I am trying to concentrate on losing a little bit around my midsection so the skin and fat will be looser so the doc has more room to work and tighten. After my surgery I will have to go to a much lower routine for awhile until all the pain is gone. I will most likely stop at that point..I really really hate exercizing. I'm not one of those folks that yoyo's with my weight, it's been constant almost all my life. I gained a little bit after I had my boys and it stayed the same till the next one came along. They broke me LOL so now I'm fixin it ;)

Wish these next 6 weeks would just fly by and be overwith.

LOL

Keep it up and you'll be fine. I speed walk normally, but sometimes when I sit on my butt too long I notice I slow down. Recent example: I walk a mile to the bus station when I go into the office every other Saturday. Normally I make it in 9-10 minutes, but this past Saturday it was 12. [8D] I was carrying more weight than usual but that shouldn't have been an issue...

Best of luck!

Lucifyre -> RE: Speed Walking SUCKS! (8/7/2012 9:35:17 AM)

Thanks for the encouragement and support!
I'm sure most of you can empathize with how difficult it is to force myself to get up and get moving every day. I know it will all be worth it when it's over and done with.
I'm just happy I am able to do this at this stage of my life rather than waiting until later on and having lots less time to enjoy my "new self". I wish there would have been a way to do it 10 years ago when I was officially done having kids.

6 days and counting...

The way to love what you do is do what you love.

Why aren't you doing that?

Money where mouth is: I just got back from a 240 mile bike ride. It took four days, but that is because two were the hottest so far this Summer. I plan to do it again.

What about spinning? (probably at a gym) You're laid-back, it doesnt hurt your joints (like jogging) because you're laid back and you can still exercise your mi-sections and legs.

spinning as in turning in circles in the same spot...kind of like what the hippies did at Grateful Dead concerts? (omg did I just date myself? SHUT UUUUUPPPP lol)

I'll pass on that one...puked on way too many hallway concert floors to have any kind of happy memories lmao!

I speed walk and run. I will tell you..I'd rather run than speed walk. The devil made up speed walking.

MariaB -> RE: Speed Walking SUCKS! (8/7/2012 3:01:12 PM)

Spinning in a gym is sitting on a static bike and spinning the peddles. Its tough and more cardiovascular than anything else. Spinning can also be real bike riding in a very low gear whilst cycling up a very steep hill.

LOL OMG did I have the wrong idea lmao!

Thanks for explaining it...I now feel like a complete dumbass <grin>

That may not be a bad idea Maria, I appreciate you suggesting it. It would likely be a lot less impact than walking for me, which would be a great thing.

Maybe I'll go to Play it Again Sports tomorrow and see if I can find a used bike for cheap...then I don't have to go to the gym with (other) sweaty people LOL

In fact, Mr was actually looking at one the other day when we went to Sears. Hmm, if HE wants one....***gears turning now***

Thanks all!!

You seem like a social person. If that is the case, keep exercise social too! It can be supportive... it is for me anyway.

Good luck in the next exciting episode!
