CountZer0 -> Shibari (8/6/2012 3:24:15 PM)

I've recently discovered my passion for the art of Shibari, and my let's call it "talent" in executing some basic forms for now. I am wondering if anyone use manuals or websites or dvd, anything you guys use, I'll need some reviews and advices from users.
Thank you!

littlewonder -> RE: Shibari (8/6/2012 3:29:33 PM)

best place I've ever found to learn this is at play parties. There's always at least one or two who are doing it.

MercTech -> RE: Shibari (8/6/2012 5:09:00 PM)

I still often use skills out of a BM rate training manual.. the section of fancy knotwork.
(BM... Navy Speak for Boatswain's Mate)

dananddawn -> RE: Shibari (8/6/2012 5:47:22 PM)

There is always shibari con of course...

BambiBoi -> RE: Shibari (8/6/2012 7:10:54 PM)

I learned all my knots with string on dolls. It's easier to experiment and refer back to whatever video/article you're using. Stuffed bears worked best.

>.> Don't you judge me.

you can youtube Two knotty boys- they give very good step by step instructions... they also have a book.

Practice, practice, practice... and learn the way that works best for you. I do well with books, and I enjoyed the seminar with Esinem, but I really learn best by looking at what I want to do and figuring out how to do it on my own.

CountZer0 -> RE: Shibari (8/7/2012 6:26:29 AM)

Thank you all so far! I think with the Two Knotty Boys and some other books I found online I hit the jackpot! Now off to practice, I might take the suggestion of using a doll. You guys wanna hear something funny? I wouldn't be embarassed if my mailman finds I ordered a bondage kit as much as he finds I ordered a doll. ;)

MariaB -> RE: Shibari (8/7/2012 7:32:46 AM)

If you want some real information from one of the 'Masters' take a look at http://esinem.com/ or look up Bruce Argue on Twitter. He does give online lessons but more than anything I think he will give you a lot inspiration.

I like these guys, I've watched their work before. Very straightforward and easy to follow!

B actually has a tutorial DVD out.   He is on this site somewhere, but I think more forums on rope over at fet.

Get a doll at a yard sale or at a dollar store, it's for your imaginary cousin.

Magnus32169 -> RE: Shibari (8/7/2012 10:40:46 PM)

Here are three links I have in my favorites:

http://luvbight.com/fetish/handouts/karadas.html

http://www.freetied.com/articles/bondage/rope_harness.php

https://accounts.google.com/ServiceLoginAuth

The last kink includes an age verification requirement. I found these sites, and many others, by simply googling. I just started Shibari with my sub about a month or six weeks ago; it is VERY mutually satisfying. And the subject itself has some wonderful depth, history, and a few dashes of grace, class and style... DEFINITELY warrants investigation, practice and more practice... excellence in technique and understanding, and honoring tradition, are wonderful things. I hope you get the satisfaction we do out of this ancient Japanese ritual...

aSilentNight -> RE: Shibari (8/8/2012 7:09:11 AM)

previous post: the third link is faulty xD

to OP: watch out for blood flow and suffocation, creativity and navy knots will do the rest

littlewonder -> RE: Shibari (8/8/2012 2:00:50 PM)

There's a guy around on Fetlife and Bondage.com that I've known for a few years online who is into rope and bondage and shibari. His name is The HungryTiger. He also has a website where he sells bondage ropes and accessories, www.kinkropes.com. I haven't seen him around in awhile but if you run into him he can give you lots of advice. He's a rope bondage purist and not into all the bdsm stuff. But he definitely knows his bondage.

Lucifyre -> RE: Shibari (8/8/2012 5:51:53 PM)

Also Lew Reubans and Phillip the Foole come to mind as well

(I wish Mr had the patience to learn rope bondage *sniffle*)

Wow guys, you are the best ;)

Twisted monk has some nice basic video's. I like his clear style and I love his 'rope slut' wife and her giggles.

http://naturallytwisted.co/
may have put this one down already but hey.

well i hope that helps.

oh and as a side note, if you do get a doll you will need to be careful of learning bad habits pulling rope through against the skin quickly, tying too tightly and so one. the skills are transferable but you need to be careful.
the book i bought was from..
http://completeshibari.com/
you can by land and sky and you also can get the better built bondage book which is filled with DIY BDSM equipment

Practice doesn't make perfect it makes permanent.
