I just caught the live feed of a whole room full of people start breathing, and then start cheering.

We watched the whole lot as well. So awesome! It gave me goosebumps and was so exciting to watch.. I don't think any of us could appreciate how rewarding and relieving it must be for the folk at NASA who have worked so hard to get it to this point!

Seeing those first photos was amazing!

Yeah, this is great! It's not like all the money we waste on space exploration would do anyone here on earth any good. I say just send up a rocket ship with a metric shit ton of gold and explode it in space. We don't have problems here that need to have energy and though put into them.

I like that they're starting once again to try and find a framework through which to really FEATURE our achievements in space. These are really big transcendent moments in technology and just plain "reach", if you will.

Nasa has a Youtube channel where they'll be sharing much of the mission's video and in case anyone missed the video simulation of what happened, you should definitely watch it.

Don't feel bad... I have been waking myself up needlessly for two weeks to watch it. I felt pretty dopey LAST Sunday when I made the kids stay up with me to watch it. And then, when it actually went down, My boy is about 25 miles west of the nearest cell tower and in a boy scout outpost in the Allagash Waterway in Northwestern Maine. And my daughter, well I didn't have the nerve to wake her again [8D]

Still this is only the beginning of a long period of discovery. I'm really looking forward to this.

You pretty much summed it up.
There's a guy named "James" up here in Gloucester who has very much the same aura, only he shows up in real life. We have small group of men and women who get together each month for discussion of a lot of topics ranging from the fishing industry to space exploration (the common theme being "where do they fit in our future?"). I missed the july meeting because of early season schoolie tuna fishing and while I was gone, they voted to move the meeting and not tell James.
