Fucking dicks.

And what's this shit about setting a new precedent? I mean, how the fuck backward is this place? Are they caught in a fucking time warp or something? Has any of them seen an automobile... err... I mean, horseless carriage, yet?

It's a good thing they never met my family... their fucking heads would implode.

A certain minister needs to grow a pair. He had a wonderful opportunity to use this as a teaching point and a topic for a sermon.

Instead, he caved in because he was probably worried about a few members and what they put in that offering plate.

Have you ever read the Bible? I mean really read it? One of the ironies of the WBC is that they come closest to representing the "true" God of the Bible... a narcissistic, sadistic, intolerant, prick.

Does he really need all those buttons, washers, and maybe the occasional turd if somebody had a heavy night before coming into the morning service?

I would suggest that you get a copy of the KJV of the bible and try reading just the words in red text. You'll find that those words are definitely not the adjectives you use.

Now, is that a matter of a bunch of people, constructing a very spiritual ideal and making it a real person? I don't know but, I do know that my reading of those words have found them to be open, loving, kind, caring, and understanding.

Right. And which high profile Baptists actually do that, then? They have more interest in the vilest shit than they can find in the old testament than anything Christ had to say. A lot of these twats have no business calling themselves Christians: they're fucking Pharisees.

In my opinion any god who gives us a "choice" between spending eternity screaming in agonizing pain (a choice made under duress is no choice at all) or praising him over how wonderful he is, is a sadistic, narcissistic prick. It basically amounts to an abusive parent, beating their child while screaming "Love me! Love me!"

I refuse to believe that God is a narcissistic, sadistic prick.

I consider myself an agnostic. There may well be a intelligent, creative awareness (beyond our current ability to perceive or comprehend) at the heart of the mystery of existence. If so then this God's (for lack of a better word) attitude toward us would best be described as indifferent. I suppose, if you wanted to put a positive spin on it, you could say that God is wise enough to know that we need to be left alone for a while... work things out on our own.

It's the only way we'll learn.

Don't jump to conclusions. The minister said that he caved from pressure from his flock. It could be that he's a bigot and made the call himself, and blamed the congregation.

You may be right Steve. I have a feeling, though, that if he was the bigot, he wouldn't have agreed to marry them in his church in the first place before he backed out.
I'm still guessing it was a couple of his big donors.

In my personal experience, most of the protestant churches in the country are still pretty much "segregated" by race/ethnicity. This doesn't shock me so much. Sad, but true.

Funds or not, he shouldn't have compromised his own morals.

Or married them at the second church.

Interesting (imho) food for thought:

In his sermons, Martin Luther King Jr. was fond of quipping that "eleven o'clock Sunday morning is the most segregated hour and Sunday school is still the most segregated school of the week."

There is a time and a place for everything.

Why do some people think it better to avoid telling dipshits to shut the fuck up and sit the fuck down?

Aparently nobody read the whole story the vastmajority of the congrgation was outraged by this. Wouldn't be surprised if they get a new minister soon.
