ORIGINAL: BenevolentM I'm wondering if anyone is willing to convince me that global warming is man made. I got half way through the article and got bored with it. It is a long article, but half way through it seemed to stop being informative. Can anyone believe what politicians say? So they signed something. Does that make it a fact? Not necessarily. Perhaps you could argue the point in a non-existent world court. I've heard that Mars is also experiencing global warming. How could that be? Is it sympathetic magick? The only way to 'prove' that global warming is manmade is similar to the way you'prove' that you should change the oil in your car. Increased CO2 in a planetary atmosphere will lead to increased temperatures because of the photonic absorption curve of the gas. Not changing oil will eventually lead to the engine siezing because of heat induced breakdown of the molecules and loss of lubricating power. Fortunately, most car owners take this on "faith" and change their oil. If you wish to prove the point as it were, all you have to do is never change your oil and see what happens. Who knows, you might just prove that Quaker State is running a big ripoff. I eagerly await your experimental results. To prove that AGW is total hokum, all we have to do is keep doing what we're doing for the next century or so. If a few billion people are displaced by drought, rising sea levels and changes in growing seasons, well damn, I guess we shoulda changed the oil. Are we willing to take that chance? Do you refuse to change your oil and take a chance on having to buy a new engine? As for mars warming, you might want to check this. The Sun's energy output has not increased since direct measurements began in 1978 (see Climate myth special: Global warming is down to the Sun, not humans). If increased solar output really was responsible, we should be seeing warming on all the planets and their moons, not just Mars and Pluto. source. http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn11642-climate-myths-mars-and-pluto-are-warming-too.html Hill...stop using facts (please) to suggest that man may be contributing. You're confusing the argument. Several want to presume that man isn't contributing, others wants to argue that regardless of man's contribution, it shouldn't matter. We should just continue bilging the universe, and of course that includes our intrusion into other places, here or elsewhere. (You're really kind of fucking things up).
