Yes, but let's be clear. they are in most cases very special forces. they are used as a small mobile force to go in black and get out black and have saved many more lives from the truly violent than they themselves have cost.
Even still, never to turn a town or area into our sort of informal vassal control.

Yes, the concocted 'war on terror' and our leaving behind forces in Afghan and Iraq could be described as a new form of colonialism-lite and was has always been the pursuit of pacification for pipelines and oil but not to forever enslave or convert.
Capitalist imperialism 21st century style, maybe. But then we will still need to make more deals. It will be up to domestic govts. to stand their ground to achieve progress because of it.
Is the west engaged in the gradual decay of all but the cooperative ? I doubt it and there's still time to slow it and make a deal with it.
