ORIGINAL: LadyHibiscus Caplin died suddenly of a liver ailment. He rarely got ice lollies or cokes, he actually was a very well kept animal who got a healthy diet (plain yogurt is fine for capys). They are vegetarians, and eat hay, grass, vegetables, fruits, and guinea pig feed. Not much is known about capybara health, which is why theROUS Foundation was started. The foundation pays for necropsies for capys, and the goal is to find out more about their potential ailments. Many die as babies, or suddenly, as Caplin did, after very brief illnesses. They are prey animals, and do not display symptoms well even when closely watched. A capy in captivity will live 12-15 years. Did you know that guinea pigs are an 'exotic' as far as vets are concerned? I was very lucky to find a good vet for my pigs. An animal we experiment on endlessly, but don't explore the health of? I didn't know that about guinea pigs being considered exotic, Hey! I thought americans called them hampsters haha, or was that for my benefit? I guess it could have been anything with caplin, I am very Careful with what my pets eat, iceblocks and coke will never pass my dogs lips! it just seems so bad for a treat, I feed my dog Pretty much normal dog foods and for a treat he gets a big meaty Bone, I also have a Oscar which have well researched health requirements, they actualy require vitamin C consistently or they have problems and end up dieing early, I think they need Vitamin C because they eat anything that falls into the water in the wild, including alot of fruit, the reason I mention it is capys seem to have a similar Habitat, a high fruit diet may mean they have special vitamin requirements. My Oscar gets live earthworms and neon tetras for a treat just incase anyone was interested, RIP Caplin -ARIES
