On Tuesday night’s episode of “The Daily Show,” host Jon Stewart again waded into the muddy waters of “Fast and Furious,” the pseudo-scandal currently rocking the right wing of the political world while barely seeming to exist to most people on the other side of the aisle. Republican outrage at the Department of Justice’s purported mishandling of the Bush-era gun-running operation has only redoubled and intensified as the rest of the public has declined to join them in fomenting this particular wave of manufactured outrage.

Mimicking the fevered pitch of the hyperbole surrounding the story, Stewart said, “‘Fast and Furious’ is like what would happen if Monica Lewinsky went down on Iran Contra during the Bay of Pigs invasion.”

Fox News personalities have started flinging around the word “Watergate,” as is their wont, but Stewart reminded them that they’ve invoked the specter of Nixon’s spectacular flameout as chief executive so many times that no one believes it anymore. They’ve become, he said, “the fox who cried wolf.”

“Your outrage repertoire has been so overused as to render justified outrage meaningless,” the host explained.

He then quickly ran through a series of instances where Republicans have exploded in outrage [invoking the Khmer-Rouge] over minor matters like the famous “indoctrination of New Jersey second graders” outrage-fest when video surfaces of a group of second graders singing a song their music teacher wrote about President Barack Obama.

In the wake of the president’s assertion of executive privilege to shield sensitive documents from the committee led by Rep. Darrell Issa, conservatives are calling the country under Barack Obama a “lawless dictatorship.” It’s a charge, said Stewart, that might hold more water if President George W. Bush hadn’t issued so many executive orders of his own.

Wow another liberal comedian changes the facts to get a laugh out of the audience, and the usual nutters take it as gospel...

Do we really need to go over this yet again?

AG Holder says your lying. Even HE admits that there were a bunch of differences between the Bush era Wide Receiver and the Obama era Fast & Furious He even admits that he wasn't equating the two operations... Now if HE can be honest about it, why can't you, and Stewart?

No facts changed, he admitted there were differences in the programs, I admit you are different than any other doughnutter I met.....distinction without a difference, you are still a teabagging neo-con, all the major features are there, and since neither was briefed on the operations, how do they know what the difference is?

Does the fact the so called whistle blower was one of the central figuires reccomending the program strike anyone as at the least odd. Fast and Furious was a bad program it isn't Iran Contra, it isn't arms for hostages, it isnt Nixon falsifying documents for the IRS when found he owed hundreds of thousands in back taxes, , it isn't watergate, it isn't creating an intelligence unit to give you the intelligence you want rather than the truth. It's a minor govermental scandal and an example of a program gone awry.

The bullet that killed that agent did not in fact come from one of the guns in question it came from one of the guns congress refuses to act on. It's also the sole time republicans have spoken against the illegal gun running that continues to this day to Mexico. Someone does something to find out the gun shops that are suppliers and identify the straw buyers and it's a scandal???? The scandal is the lack of action on the continueing problem of our guns being used by drug cartels because OMG we cant limit you to buying one semi automatic at a time...... wow the mexicans recovered 6000 guns from the program meanwhile they recovered 70000 from the USA.

Let me see if I got this right.

The REPUBLICANS are screaming that the gun control laws aren't either (A) strong enough or (B) properly enforced?

Seriously? That's what they're reduced to?

The Attorney General lied to congress about who, when and where. Then he had to issue a letter saying he made a mistake in his testimony. He either lied or doesn't know what the fuck is going on in his own department. Neither is acceptable. The incompetant oaf should do the honerable thing and resign.

This matter is serious and people we are paying BIG money to run the Justice Department come across as a bunch of guys bullshitting at the bar. They don't know anything and don't read memos. Holder testified he doesn't read all his memos. (memos that said he knew more, and sooner than he testified) Memos that make it to the HEAD of the Justice Department are screened and important. I don't think he gets memos advertising sales at Walmart! A well paid Head of an important agency doesn't read his memos? You Lefties really believe that, right? ROFLMAO

Did you feel the same way when Alberto Gonzales testified before Congress regarding torture?

Let me see if I got this right.

The REPUBLICANS are screaming that the gun control laws aren't either (A) strong enough or (B) properly enforced?

Seriously? That's what they're reduced to?

I know. I thought that too earlier, with much amusement.

Leftists, who normally claim to favor gun control, are laughing their asses off because Obama and Holder gave a million dollars worth of weaponry to Mexican narco-terrorists, got hundreds of Mexicans killed, and are now stonewalling the investigation...

Makes perfect sense when one understands that leftists are consistently inconsistent

And stand only for the talking point of the hour as handed down by central control

How much in arms did Republicans give to Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussien, 'a few years ago'? If your going to bash the Democrat, first make sure the Republicans havent dont far worst in the past.

Same could be said of the right. Actually, the right has violated just about EVERY principle they had back during the Clinton Administration. You know the whole 'We are Fiscal Conservatives", and than between 2000 and 2008 raise the US Debt five times and increase the US Deficit by a staggering amount. Or that they are in favor of 'enhanced interrogation techiques (aka torture) while stating they uphold the US Constitution. Or how about using '2nd Amendment Remedies on 1st Amendment liberals'? In order to have principles, you cant flip-flop on issues. Right now, Mitt Romney represents the GOP, and that guy flip flops faster than a screen door is slammed during a hurricane!

I believe Mr. Stewart showed that FOX News personalities kept dropping 'Watergate' a bunch of times. In fact, Jon Stewart has done this quite a number of times over the last few years. When he would joke what the 'Word/Phrase of the Day on FOX News' by showing eight to twelve people (some regulars, others 'experts'). After seeing that, he is making the point that FOX News is trying to drill into conservatives minds a message that really holds little facts or evidence but a whole lot of lies.

I find it curious they (FOX News) use NLP techniques sometimes on a population to dumb to realize they are being programmed.

Well, except for the fact that no weapons were actually diverted, and they guy behind the 'story' is a Republican fuck-up, who rather than obey the orders he was given decided to try to cover his own ass.

You can tell the guy was a fucking moron, because he didn't even know what a "DAY" is...

Fast and Furious--yet another example of why prohibition is a counter-productive fraud. Trucks full of tequila cross that border every day with no murders or international incidents.

As long as you have to make up positions in order to refute them, you will remain a clown.

As long as you merely parrot the right wing blogosphere, you will be a mindless parrot.
