JstAnotherSub -> Grammar matters (6/20/2012 10:02:59 AM)

I actually tested this, and it did what this pic says.

Just something to think about.

A dear friend on Facebook just corrected me and said that it really should state that semantics matter, not grammar.

I told her I am dumping her for a dumber friend!!!!

*Chortle*. Very revealing indeed. Nice one!

I've just tried "How can u tell if ur" Is it only young females who use text speak?

PeonForHer -> RE: Grammar matters (6/20/2012 12:07:53 PM)

"How can one" is also pretty good. ;-)

GreedyTop -> RE: Grammar matters (6/20/2012 12:10:35 PM)

*was pondering using duct tape on Peon for bad grammar, then realized that THAT wasn't going to happen*
\'sok, got other things in mind....

TNDommeK -> RE: Grammar matters (6/20/2012 12:27:31 PM)

Very Interesting.

JstAnotherSub -> RE: Grammar matters (6/20/2012 12:31:04 PM)

I have never sent a text message, so I am so stupid about textspeak, it is funny to friends and family. I really do not get the whole thing, and I am good with that-lol.

I do think it is dumbing us down, and I am not sure we can go much farther in that direction.

Karmastic -> RE: Grammar matters (6/20/2012 12:51:12 PM)

fr-

that is very interesting indeed! more a reflection on who searches for what.

Master2811 -> RE: Grammar matters (6/20/2012 6:59:24 PM)

I hate textspeak. It shows laziness and/or impatience and/or sloppiness.

lol, i love it, for all the same reasons. i get paid to write nicely, so sometimes i enjoy being able to not worry about spelling or grammar and punctuation. it's a good release for me, and sometimes leads to funny and inappropriate assumptions from trolls.

but truth be told, you're right, those aren't venerable traits at all.

Nope
But I do find it's usually the millenials who use it. Just like every generation had their way of speaking, this generation isn't any different. The only difference is that they grew up in the technology age and for them texspeak is their second language and technology is a part of them. For them, technology is like eating and breathing.

My daughter and her boyfriend use textspeak when they text me and I'll usually respond in kind simply because it's faster. It's not like I'm being graded on it or that I write like that all the time. It's just a faster and easier way to communicate. Morse code did the same thing.

Now I don't text like that to Master only because I know he doesn't like it but thankfully I have my phone set to the autotext so it's faster that way as well.

MadAxeman -> RE: Grammar matters (6/21/2012 8:02:38 AM)

My neices, who are from generation text, will verbalise textspeak.
If they find something funny, they will say 'loll' if it's really funny then it's le mayo

Young men used to try that on me all the time. Separates the wheat from the chaff, their response to "please spell your words completely".
