Owner59 -> Is a Romney-Paul ticket possible? (6/18/2012 6:29:49 PM)

As Ron Paul picks up more and more delegates.....politically, it would be a great move.

But is it possible......given their histories and positions?

I know Mitt would jump at a VP Paul.......but would Ron Paul want the job?

Ricky Santorum just last week said he wasn`t interested in the job.....adding to a long list of cons who don`t want to be on Mitt`s team.

Ron Paul is a nut job. Won't happen. The left would love that ticket..

Owner59 -> RE: Is a Romney-Paul ticket possible? (6/18/2012 6:39:00 PM)

Then how is it he`s picking up so many delegates......?

It`s your party, bub......

servantforuse -> RE: Is a Romney-Paul ticket possible? (6/18/2012 6:45:51 PM)

Everyone else dropped out of the race. He's a nut.

Just got 21 of 28 delegates in Iowa....he`s doing something to appeal to voters.

servantforuse -> RE: Is a Romney-Paul ticket possible? (6/18/2012 6:59:23 PM)

He has a grand total of 137 delegates. Maybe these supporters want him to make a speech at the convention ?

Interesting thought: what will Romney want in a VP? Will he want someone with positives, or simply someone with minimal negatives? servant's post indicates the latter, that Romney will simply want someone who is relatively immune from gaffes and attacks - in other words, avoiding a repeat of the Palin episode.

Romney/Rubio.......Bank on it.

We're gonna have the first 'Anchor Baby' Veep candidate in history.

Why on earth would he do that?

servantforuse -> RE: Is a Romney-Paul ticket possible? (6/18/2012 7:40:53 PM)

Several reasons. He's smart. He's an immigrant. He's young. He's nice looking. He doesn't make stupid comments aka Joe Biden.....Don't count out Rommney / Ryan...

servant, I'm getting lost here. Please clarify that you're discussing Rubio and not Paul. Or is it Ryan?

That's where the safe money is, assuming no missing hookers, or too much time in airport restrooms.

Thats exactly what Wilbur was saying although I'm sure Tin Foil Paul would make an excellent president after he uses his HAARP ray gun on Romney...

It's not your fault. I was distracted by a 4 year granddaughter. Misread owners comment..

There is also the religion matter. The Republican's still need to show the fundies something shiny, and I don't know that a Mormon/Catholic-Mormon-Catholic (but still Mormon) is going to tick that box.

Maybe hedge your bet with a conventionally conservative lifelong protestant. A Lutheran perhaps, because somebody on the ticket needs to drink a beer at a bbq, once in a while.

Scott Walker likes a beer now and then..

Rubio would be problematic. He's said he doesn't want to run and he has a lot of scandals to rehash in the national press.

I'm guessing Ryan is the present favorite. If I was Romney I might look hard at Rand Paul, he'd get the far right cred of the Paul name without quite so much of the baggage as well as a southern voice to speak to the base.

Winterapple -> RE: Is a Romney-Paul ticket possible? (6/19/2012 11:51:53 AM)

I don't think a Romney/Paul ticket is likely.

Paul is a loose cannon and disliked even loathed by the party elders and probably
by Romney himself. They don't even want
Paul to speak at the convention much less
be the veep candidate.
Paul has a very fervent group of followers.
A mixed bag of isolationists, nutty but not
nasty crackpotters, Founder fetishists and
potheads. Not really the crowd the repubs
are going for, their Founder fetishists are
different.
Interesting to think of Rand Paul as the choice.
He has these things in his favor.
1 Has the Dan Quayle virtues of being dumber and duller than Willard.
2 Choosing him could keep the old man in check. If his son is on the ticket he probably
wouldn't point out all the things about it.
3 Would appeal to the shitkickers
4 His bad rug would supply much fodder for
comedians

Jack45 -> RE: Is a Romney-Paul ticket possible? (6/19/2012 12:36:57 PM)

Ron Paul is persona non grata in the GOP and in the MSM. Ron Paul is of the past, back when America was America. The GOP elite, like Mitt, and the Democrats are the same entity with different masks.

I think Mitt would rather slice a wrist than choose Ron Paul.. and, I think Rick Santorum is lying.
