Using fast reply.

Christ.  I feel bad for the people who don't have imagination in regard to BDSM.  It makes Me wonder what in the hell is wrong with them that they come here searching for ideas.  All imagination in BDSM takes is a little common sense and a dash of creativity.  Am I really the only one out there who takes a quick shopping trip out and comes up with all kinds of naughty ideas for the things I see sitting on the shelves?

Heck, I don't even consider Myself that smart, but I'm the MdGuyver of BDSM.  Put six mundane items in front of Me and I think of something devious to do with them.

Deliena -> RE: Is There Imagination in BDSM? (6/9/2012 4:29:21 AM)

Personally for me BDSM is all about imagination, its about imaging how you want your life/sex life/particular scene to be and then making that happen. That's as creative as imagining a beautiful hand-made chair, buying wood and making it imo. Yeah there may be loads of chairs out there that look similar to mine, but none of them are my chair, and none will be as perfect for my ass as my chair.

Moonhead -> RE: Is There Imagination in BDSM? (6/9/2012 4:49:19 AM)

That's individual tailoring and fine tuning rather than imagination or creativity, though.

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: Is There Imagination in BDSM? (6/9/2012 5:12:00 AM)

And having that creative streak is what makes for an excellent top.

I don't think that BDSM itself is inherently creative. I'm sure LadyP has seen the same thing I have: couples who go to the dungeon, full toy bag in toy, looking bored as hell as the do the same old scene.

But it is certainly a great outlet for creativity. One thing I love about himself is that he doesn't *need* a toy bag. He just uses whatever is to hand. And he knows how to use his body (like a grizzly cheek) to get a reaction. He's never dull !! And to me that makes for longevity in a relationship.

BTW MIP, I loved your mummy scene. Seriously mean and sadistic creativity is a great turn on !!

And that's what I'm talking about when I refer to cliches and fantasies stripped bare by constant witless reiterations performed by idiots with no panache. Hell, if that's creativity or imagination, then I'm getting fellated by Rachael Weisz while typing this.

DesFIP -> RE: Is There Imagination in BDSM? (6/9/2012 6:07:21 AM)

There are artists in all walks of life. Ones who use their creativity for sex, some who use it for religion. And anything else you can think of.

I'm not creative. I don't scrap book or paint. But that by no means makes me less for needing to read about other peoples ideas.

Moonhead -> RE: Is There Imagination in BDSM? (6/9/2012 7:25:08 AM)

I'm not saying that it does.
I just have an issue with people who've based their sex life on a tiresome swords and sorcery novel from the '70s making out that this makes them vastly more creative and imaginative than all of those vanilla scum out there.

mummyman321 -> RE: Is There Imagination in BDSM? (6/9/2012 8:09:40 AM)

My vision of BDSM is not based on any novel or porn. I did not learn BDSM through porn or the internet. I think that is why I disgree with you Moonhead.

My introduction into BDSM was through a personsal ad in a magazine. I met a Domme and spent the whole summer with her. I was doing mummification scenes back in the early 80's before it ever became mainstream. You never heard of it back then.

Like Lady Pact said, I feel sorry for those who do not have creative imagination in BDSM. I go to the NYC Rubber ball and I am just always amazed as the new designs and outfits created every year. I take a look at Fetters, Demask, Kink Engineering and others always coming up with new designs for BDSM gear. And the imagination of 2 kinky people getting together for some fun, you just never know what they will end up doing. I just love it. The creativity never ends.

Everyone has it, some just don't use it

Hell, Kuppy, I'd say most don't.
Now me, I'm lots more like this:

I've given demos on how to use household objects for BDSM, had the audience just randomly grab things and bring them in, then I'd find kinky uses for em. You don't even wanna know what I can do with a turkey baster and a pair of BBQ tongs.
And Lord help ya if ya end up walking the aisles of Home Depot with me.
I'll end up thinking bout things liker taking some thin chain, attaching fishhooks to it, then running the hooks through her nipples, over her back and hooking them to a huge rectal plug. Then whip her so that everytime she arcs, she yanks at her nipples and perineum.
Now that's fun stuff

BDSM folk ain't no more or less imaginative than anybody else.
There ain't anything special about us-we just another microcosm slice of society-that's all.

Kana -> RE: Is There Imagination in BDSM? (6/9/2012 10:42:52 AM)

I prefer to think of these type of things as being less imagination and more future actualization's [:)]

Grins

Had lots of fun last night with her and nothing but a cigarette.
Screams are so sexy.

LadyPact -> RE: Is There Imagination in BDSM? (6/9/2012 1:10:55 PM)

Kana, that's Me, too.  God help ya if I've got money in My pocket when we go because something is coming home for Me to hurt you with.

And nobody is saying they all have to be your own original ideas.  I swipe other people's ideas all of the time.  In My world, all I've got to do is look around and I have all kinds of inspiration.  Something with the neatest little twist will come up.

BKSir -> RE: Is There Imagination in BDSM? (6/9/2012 1:12:47 PM)

There is DEFINITELY imagination in it. You have NO idea how many people stop by my profile with the word "boy" in their name,
and are 55 years of age or older. Now THAT is some vivid freakin imagination.

Despite the fact that most of them are more or less identical to the costumes from the year before?

(And just so we're clear on this: we disagree because you think that getting yourself shrinkwrapped makes you the creative equal of Ray Bradbury.)

MsKittyValentine -> RE: Is There Imagination in BDSM? (6/9/2012 1:42:00 PM)

Is imagination something particularly in evidence within bdsm?

I think it depends upon what you think of as ‘imaginative’. So much that seems to be heralded as creative and imaginative seems more like artistic expression bounded within the confines of a tradition of bdsm aesthetic. It doesn’t seem ground-breaking or wildly new to me. Just re-workings of the same themes and ideas. Not anything definitively different.

Imagination and creativity, to me, are not so much evidenced in the art, photography, fetish clothing of the scene but by what happens in relationships. The wonderful, exciting, ever-evolving and changing stuff of what we do as people with each other, to each other, for each other.

Mind you, relationships are not merely a bdsm thing. The non-kinky also have these wonderful radical things too. All happy and healthy relationships contain imaginative elements.

I am so glad this thread has not just been a tired old parade of show-boating about how superior and glorious us kinky folk are.

Me to. If the thread had sank to that level, my contribution to it at least would have quickly got a lot less civil...

myrgth -> RE: Is There Imagination in BDSM? (6/9/2012 2:15:20 PM)

I think that creative and imaginative people are creative and imaginative regardless of what they are doing. They bring it to their careers, their homes, their sex life, etc. They often find a few different ways to express it in which they shine, be it writing, painting, sex in general, or bdsm.

I would disagree that bdsm has more creative and imaginative people than any other group and specifically vanilla. Yes, there are some creative people and there are some endlessly dull people as well.

My experience is the direct opposite of yours. When I first dipped my toes into the "scene" and "lifestyle" back in the 80's I found it filled with horribly mundane, boring, unimaginative people who were
emotionally unhealthy, manipulative, and crass. Perhaps if there had been the internet back then I wouldn't have felt such disdain and would have found a group or community that I could relate to. As it was, it didn't exist, at least it didn't anywhere near me. Granted I didn't look hard and my experience is very microscopic in nature.

This didn't stop me from having the relationships as I wanted or experimenting, it simply made me shy away from the "community". I think I'm better for it as I've been able to fine tune and tailor my desires and act on them without the community telling me it's right or wrong.

I've been exploring the local (and some distant) communities in the last year. I'm finding a much better fit these days than I did before. Likely because it is much, much bigger. While I still find the same types of people I did in the past, I've also met some really cool, interesting people who have introduced me to ideas and things I haven't yet explored.

In my experience, and only my experience because by all means others will vary, I have found vanilla men to be much more fun, open, and willing to experiment and play with what I enjoy than I have in the past year of searching for submissive men. Again, in my experience, submissive men tend to be locked into their fantasy and it leaves little room for the wide, wide world of ideas and pursuit of pleasure as I define it and enjoy actualizing.

So is there imagination in bdsm? Sure. Is there more than in other lifestyles? I wouldn't say so.

Hi, Mcguyver, I'm the Martha Stewart of home made sex toys....I've always wanted to shake your hand. I have a rubber band, a drinking staw, and seven paper clips. I bet if we think about it we can find a way to hurt someone with them.

We really should go shoping together some time [:D]
