Hi,
New and starting out in chatrooms. i don't understand a lot of stuff. Can Someone please explain?
Modes - i understand that '+v' means "available". Who decides and what do other things mean?
Every now and then someone's name comes up with "removed by peer". What does that mean, please?
And, what on earth does the '!checkdesc' thing (might've got that wrong) mean?
please tell me, i'm sure it will make my a better sub.

CM Chat is just a java client over a IRC backend. I'm not sure what customizations CM have done, but if you look up IRC chat, you'll find the full list of commands.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Relay_Chat

IRC is 24 year old peer to peer technology. Removed by peer is just your server telling you, that their server stopped talking with them.

IRC type chatrooms have owners and moderators. The larger ones tend to have moderators who are actually present.

Approach one of them politely and ask any question you may have about how the room works. The good ones will be happy to respond when they have the time. If they treat you like crap or ignore you, it's a good chance you won't be a good "fit" for that chatroom.

Try to look at them as a neighborhood bar. Each will have its own customs, clientele, and accepted rules of conduct. Some are freewheeling, no moderation do whatevah rooms, and others are well organized and with stated protocols and rules of conduct. Each chatroom is it's own little mini sub culture, depending on the owners and moderators who run it and the people who like to frequent it.

Knowing chat room prompts will just make you a more experienced chat room user.

It has nothing to do with submission and therefore can't make you a better sub.

I was going to ask what this topic has to do with bondage, discipline, sadism, and masochism.

because if she knows how to use a chat room it means she can follow directions and it will attract her a dom who will tell her to strip and kneel online.

If a dominant bot tells a submissive bot to kneel on an otherwise empty server, does it make a sound?

I don't know about yours, but my bot doesn't go around talking other people's bots at all.

The tech head explanation of +v etc...

CM's chat is a Java client for Internet Relay Protocol (IRC). This stuff started with college mainframes being able to hose discussion rooms between universities worldwide.
The +v was originally used to allow certain people to post in the chat room (i.e. professors) and everyone else could just watch the discussion.

IRC has slowly but surely been relegated to social chat with videoconferencing taking over the slot it originally filled in the 70s and 80s.

Anyway, if you want to learn more, google IRC (Internet Relay Chat) Note that this is a different protocol from WWW (world wide web), FTP (file transfer protocol), or the plethora of others that are behind the interface you are usiing.

And yes, back in the day, I was a moderator for some chat rooms on Undernet and Dalnet (google those if you are curious). The CM chat is a java application that uses IRC... and uses it poorly IMHO. I wonder if you can find the collarme server with an IRC clent like MIRC? Have to check on that one.
