"McGraw to give 25 homes to members of military"

http://news.yahoo.com/mcgraw-25-homes-members-military-105322450.html

Tim McGraw will be saluting veterans in a big way while on tour this summer.
The country music superstar is giving away 25 mortgage-free houses — one for each stop on his upcoming "Brothers of the Sun" tour with Kenny Chesney — to wounded or needy service members.
McGraw will kick off the campaign with a Memorial Day concert for military members at New York City's Beacon Theatre during Fleet Week.
"My sister's a veteran, my uncle's a veteran, my grandfather was a veteran, one of my best friends is a veteran," McGraw said in an interview. "I've known people my whole life who are in service to America. And I think in my position to be able to do something like that is probably the ultimate thing. So to be able to go on tour and provide sort of a stable foundation for a veteran and their family is something I really look forward to."
Fans can watch a live stream of the show on YouTube and it also will be available to military bases around the world via The Pentagon Channel website.

Pity no details are forthcoming on the determination of how.

Lottery? Dart throwing? First stage diver...?

The show(s) will be streamed live for free on Youtube so maybe we`ll get to see.

My hope is that they`ll be given away to the neediest.

The guy/gal who lost their home b/c they were serving(a lot of that happened) or the someone with a huge family.

Does it really matter how he chooses his recipients? Isn't it great enough that he's doing this? He didn't have to do it. He's choosing to do it. Who are you to put any qualifications on how he should use his own money?

I'm not. Asking how is a method by which many people learn something they don't know.

Going meta and assuming the purpose of the question...now that is another story. And no, I'm not judging you, I've been guilty of the same thing in the past.

Cheers.

I think it's fantastic what he's doing. But, I'm going qualify that with: He's giving homes to the true heroes.

These are guys that volunteer to defend our freedoms. They deserve so much more from this country and it's citizens.

Thank you for saying that more artfully than I was going to.

I don't see how a wealthy entertainer giving away some of their wealth (tax deductible also) could possibly make them a hero. Wealthy people, entertainers, donate money to good causes all of the time. Most tend to keep it on the DL. The fact that one popular guy did it for soldiers, made it known to the public, near Memorial Day...... I am glad, but yanno, great timing for some good PR.

Sadly, my pessimistic nature tends to wonder then "Is Tim McGraw's career needing a boost?"

He's giving away 25 houses. Something tells me he doesn't need a career anymore. :o)

He may not be the most widely listened to entertainers (Hell, I don't listen to him at all; I'd rather go see Tug McGraw or the former pro wrestler, Quick Draw McGraw), but it doesn't matter. And, it doesn't matter who he is giving these houses to (provided it goes where it is being advertised), because it is his money.

Makes you wonder how the recipients are going to pay the taxes on the gifts.

This is true, but in this particular instance, what does it matter how it's done? What is the point of learning how Tim McGraw is going to divvy up the houses?

Simply to know. No different than reading a psych journal to observe methodologies and possibly expand my own views.

Tug McGraw is dead and he was Tim's father though he didn't have
a relationship with him til Tim was adult.
I don't think Tim's career is in bad shape or anything.
He is has a rather large fanbase and it extends
widely I think. He's had a pretty successful career as
an actor to.
Twenty five families are going to benefit from this, I think
that's all that really matters. If he goods pr from it I
don't begrudge him. If he does maybe some other
entertainers will do something similiar.
Performers do things to help people sometimes like
collect cans of food for food pantries at their concerts.
And some write big checks.
