ORIGINAL: mnottertail Other than nusiance candidates, I would say (as I said about Romney before the clown show started) The presidential candidates of the two major parties are going to be: Obama Romney When you figure that the electorate is generally divided up in 1/3rds (1/3 "liberal", 1/3 "independent" and 1/3 "conservative"), when a candidate can only get about 2/3rds of his own portion to vote for him, when he is the only name on the ballot, I figure he is having some problems with the other two groups of 3rds as well. Firm Well, these are the primaries, and you're smarter than this. No question both Obama and Romney have soft support from their base. No question they will be their parties' nominees. No question the rank and file will rally around the nominee, given the threat of the other party winning. This election comes down to three things: 1) independents. Here, Romney isn't doing great, letting Obama get away with lack luster support. At least for now. 2) Who registers the most voters. This is probably the key point in this election. 3) Getting those voters out to the polls. This is going to be a problem for both parties this election.
