I got an unexpected Happy Mother's Day gift and a blessing of a lesson or reminder that Mother's Day isn't just about mom's. I open an email to a younger man wanting to wish me a happy mothers day by sending me enough money to buy my son and I a dinner to brighten our day during what is seen as hard times. I instantly thought of the plans my family have today and knew that this wasn't needed, but I did thank him very much for the thoughtfulness. Thinking only that he was either sincere or was very smart in how he was involving himself. I choose to go the positive route.

So I get another email, explaining why he sent me the first. This explanation said a lot to me and I thought I would share it with you in case it might mean something to you as well.

He told me that his mother had died a few years ago and that he liked to do something nice for someone elses mother on mothers day. We think of honoring our mothers... a day of thanks and then you have someone that cannot in some way prove to his mother he loves her and honors her in a way that she can benefit from it... so he tries to touch another mother in honor of his own and express what he feels. I don't know about anyone else, but I found his need to do so touching. It isn't about the get... but also about the giving.

Had I known that... I might have accepted that offer... but I will surely try to find the words that will say something to him. He gave me a gift... a real meaty gift and I hope that his mother was able to see what a wonderful young man she raised before she had to leave.

And Happy Awesome Women's Day to those who've not experienced morning sickness but are genuine Mom-types nonetheless! (Moms to pets counts too!)

Talked to a friend's Mother - Lorraine - when I found out she was visiting his house today.  I had met Lorraine a few times over the years.  When I said to friend (Tom) that I'd like to wish her happy Mother's Day, he told me that it was also her birthday.  She heard him say that and yelled - so that I could hear her - "I feel cheated."  I laughed and told Tom to put her on the extension.  She did and I told her that since she had two things happening she should demand Tom give her two cakes, two bouquets, brunch AND dinner and so on.  Tom said, "Oh, good.  Now *I* feel cheated."  Much laughter.  Then I said to Lorraine, well it doesn't happen often.  She related that she was the 5th child after four boys and WAS born on Mother's day, so she was a gift to HER Mother on Mother's Day.  Cool, no?

Happy Mothers day to all the card and chocolate manufacturers and to the flower shops, well sold.
Viva capitalism!

Not all us moms got cards and chocolate [8D]

Let's see...my oldest son called me from overseas to tell me that he loved me.
My oldest daughter called from New York to tell me that she loved me.
My youngest son sent me a rock (yes a rock, lol) from wherever he happens to be stationed at at this time.
and my youngest daughter, somehow, managed to get together with the other three over the phone and computer and put together an album of all four of them from baby pictures to recent pictures...with some very nice words under each picture.

It was a perfect day. And not a flower or chocolate to be seen [:D]

IrishMist, thank you and a Happy Mother's day to you, too.

Lockit, absolutely beautiful story!  Thank you for sharing it so that other Moms could enjoy it as well.

Happy Mother's Day!

Or Mothers' Day, if that's more apt for you.

This wasn't what I intended to write when I saw the thread title but Lockit's story made me think of my good friend who lost her mother last year. I have a bit of survivor's guilt or something because I get see mine once or twice per week. (I know it's silly.)

My friend didn't return my call wishing her Happy Mother's Day. I hope her sons called >_<

Mom had a good day with my brother and me and will see my sister Thursday. My brother would have enjoyed it more had there been cake [8|]

Mom and I are really glad I moved back from Florida.
