This^^ OMG how I hate that!! But to answer your question, I think the front loader is good for space. I have a top loader, BUT..the lid is see through, so My washer is awesome!!

I love my front loader. After washing I leave the soap dispenser open along with the door do it doesn't get the mold. I have an electrolux and I love it. It washes my king size quilt very easily.

I love the front loaders at the laundromat, and in fact if we had the money to throw away on things we'd like but don't need i'd buy a front loader washer and dryer set. Maybe one with steam refreshing options, for times that you don't need an out right wash, just a lil deoderizing. like if it was clean but you ended up getting into a cab with the cabby who smoked so now you stink like ashtray.

for lingerie and bras i bought a wash mesh bag similar to THIS. Mesh bags that zip closed are really hard to find in the stores, I got mine from a dollar store and it has a zipper in it and i have not seen them again since.. if you have a sewing machine you could easily make your own tho.. I love my mesh bag so much that i take it with me when i travel..

I bought a front loader not long after they first came out. After less than a year, I sold it and went back to the top loaders.

The front loader was not getting all the clothes washed, it would not drain after properly, I was having mold problems...even with leaving the door open after use. Worse buy I ever made.

I ended up buying a new-looking barely used Maytag front loader with a warranty for $350. It is amazing how little water and detergent it uses to get stuff clean. So far it's handled quilts and blankets with ease. I'm going to put it to the test today with a big body pillow. Hope I don't kill it...

I had a top load Harmony which is the top of the line. I loved it. It has no agitator and automatically figures out how much water to use. It worked great. I had to sell it when we moved into a 1920's bungalow that had no room for a washer and dryer.

We now have a front loader. Front loaders use less water and detergent and gets clothes cleaner because it forces water through the fabric.

I love my front loader. When I start to get even a hint of a smell, I run an empty load (sometimes 2) using bleach and no worries. I bought it used for $250 a year ago and haven't had any problems yet.

right, it's a front loader every time.
Firstly they are far more water efficient, I don't know how many people have water meters, but if you do you have to go front loader. Even if you don't it's the right thing to do for the enviroment and it fills quicker.

Secondly, they do a much better job of cleaning, which is why you use the thing in the first place. Your washing is going round in a top loader, all it's doing is being swirled around by the rotation of the drum. There are some fins inside agitating the water and the clothes to a certain degree. A front loader has gravity as its main weapon, everytime that drum turns over the water and clothes are getting far more agitation than in a top loader, hence your clothes get much cleaner in much less time, which saves electricity too.
I don't know what its' like in the US but nearly every laundrette in the UK only has front loaders, why? because people in the business know what's best, if they are quick and efficient for business they will be quick and efficient for home use too.

Because I own a chain of laundrettes.
ps. don't use domestic driers if you can help it, go to your local laundrette and save a fortune

I canny resist this subject any longer.

The top loader has the obvious benefits of gravity on its side. This means that on a slow spin the clothes do not fall from top to bottom creating an up down motion of the drum which causes stresses in addition to those already present by centrifugal forces.

On the other hand front loaders are the best choice for garden gnomes. No gnome wants to climb Mount Zanussi.
