This is sickening. I thought they were millionaires. Why do they tax payer dollars to pay phone bills and the like?? That money could/should be better spent helping people really hurting.

Of course it won't be. And I'm nothing but a bleeding heart liberal for suggesting such a thing.

FR

I can't get too worked up over this. If you figure that Presidents are essentially national CEOs, they make quite a bit less than their private industry counterparts.

The Former Presidents Act, which provides for pensions and other benefits, is fairly recent (1958). It arose in large part as a way to help Harry Truman, who had modest resources.

One of the things I learned at DC's Woodrow Wilson House is that Wilson (only President to retire in the capital or be buried there) couldn't afford to buy a decent house. (I can relate!) So ten friends chipped in.

Oh and do you see that 60,000? Yeh that is the number the King would use when setting up a new members of state for knights service for his feudal colonies.

but dont tell ron because it just one meaningless coincidence in a huge stack of coincidences!!! [image]http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o296/nine_one_one/stuff/falling_off_chair_laughing-836.gif[/image]

in the scheme of things it's a pittance. I'd rather know why exxon pays no taxes than why Bush needs 85k for a phone bill

How much does the BEST security and monitoring against tapping of the line and such cost? For himself AND the Secret Service agents?
