What's really funny is that I opened this thread expecting to see this topic at the center of the controversy:

I have a catholic Syrian friend who just spent his life savings getting the women and children out who would beg to differ... but what does he know? He's not way down under with his finger firmly on the pulse of 'truth'. [:D]

Yeah whats happening to Christians in Syria is terrible. Syria was one of the bastions of Christianity in days gone past. The Syrians were one of the very first peoples to widely adopt http://www.mecn.org/2012/02/the-rights-of-christians-in-the-middle-east-are-the-rights-for-all/ the faith. Its amazing to think that even in the early part of the last century the ratio of Christians to Muslims there was almost 50-50. Now there are between 10% and 4% depending on estimates. Assad Jnr's regime was somewhat friendly to Christians there which partly explains why they are being targeted now. There was a huge purge of Christians in Egypt after the Arab Spring. It looks like the same will happen again.

That story is one of the reasons the Catholic Church had fought hiring lay teachers to begin with. But it was ruled through the courts that hiring only religious, i.e., nuns and priests as teachers was discriminatory towards lay teachers who wanted to teach in Catholic institutions. Now those same lay teachers (well, the second and third generation of lay teachers) don't want to play by the rules the Church has laid down. Where does it end?

I talked to a friend from the movement who's been writing me since about mid- May of last year. He's a Dr. there and was educated in England and The States. He told me it seemed as though there was this mob mentality that showed up basically after the success of the main part of the movement.
He said that most people i n the Arab Spring movement were opposed to it but he definitely acknowledged it was a problem. He was definitely reaching out to people making it known and he is Muslim himself.

Even nuns are being slammed as radical feminists

American nuns struggled to respond Friday to a Vatican crackdown on what it calls “radical feminism” among the women and their purported failure to sufficiently condemn such issues as abortion and same-sex marriage.

Some nuns in the Leadership Conference of Women Religious characterized the disciplinary action announced Wednesday as an “ambush,” but others — including the leadership — said they couldn’t publicly comment on a system that mandates their obedience. The 1,500-member conference represents the vast majority of the country’s 57,000 nuns.“
People are stunned,” said Sister Pat McDermott, president of the 3,500-member Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, based in Silver Spring. “They’re outraged, angry, frustrated, they don’t know where this came from and how to hold it.”

The "war on women" (barring third world countries) doesn't exist.

Women have been earning 80 - 85% on the dollar since the 60's.

It ain't the man that's keeping them down.

They leave. For years and in some cases, decades.

To have babies.....I for one am glad as hell because they send me employees.

And frankly....I wouldn't....and couldn't.

But...women nurture....anyone that claims that men can...get real. It's rare (I do know a few....and they're incredible).

Sure....your Dad was a nurturing guy....your Mom was a hard ass.....right.

Dad sent you notes every day in your lunch box telling you how much he loved you. Riiiiight.

It's just the way it is....and by the way....it's damned fabulous.

Dad hugged you....and it mattered when he did. It mattered a lot because it was so infrequent. But BECAUSE it was so infrequent....it carried weight.

Women are best for this kind of thing (sue me). Men are not.

We kill things....and the smart women love it.

We (men) don't know shit about raising kids.....we do know about raising boys and by the way.....them are the ones that are going to kill things for you (women) in times to come.

Okay....let the flames begin!

As a product of Catholic schools, my impression was that hiring lay teachers was an adaptation to the decline in vocations, which made it impossible to staff schools completely with nuns. Can you tell me how you learned about the church's fight against lay teachers and the court cases? I'd love to learn more!

That's what I was always told. And it was part of the reason why, when I was 14, I left the Church. Honestly, it's been so long ago, maybe I'm remembering things incorrectly.

Perhaps if the good nuns indulged in some child abuse they would benefit from some support from the Vatican.

unfounded SMEAR ?
Hardly.

I thought not reading everything was a peeve of yours. You obviously didn't get that I was talking about her building nuns into her attack on the vatican which was REALLY about the sexual conduct of priests.
You wanna make it a 'one size fists all' thing?
Cause that's the only way your one-worder has any legs.

When you finally get your knickers untwisted, SS, you might care to explain how describing the nuns as "good" constitutes a "smear" to whatever passes as a way of thought in your mind. It will be a pleasant surprise to discover if there is any method in your madness.

They never were 'twisted' and frankly, it'd take a real intellectual lightweight to read that much into my not giving your dopey diatribes any more ground.

You can gaggle all you want, but you're the one who's become the last word fanatic in this dialogue. Tell ya what... I'll let ya have a good caterwaul about how directionless I supposedly am (even though you lie got knocked out from under you) and let you have some illusion of 'winning' you apparently need.
[:D]
