Status: offline 		Can anybody please help me ? I need to get in touch with somebody with some kind of authority from the North-Eastern Iroquois Nation.I have a pair of beautifully decorated moccasins that I have been reliably informed are about 300 years old and come from that tribe. I keep getting this strange feeling that they need to return to the tribe and both my son and I would like to do that but I would prefer to hand them over to an elder or similar in person, preferably who is or may be visiting Australia sometime soon. I not only have no wish to visit the U.S. again but don't have that kind of money to do so and just mailing them doesn't feel tight at all.
If anybody can help, I will be very much obliged.

Status: offline 		Here is the link to the Iroquois Indian Museum http://www.iroquoismuseum.org/ .I would try contacting them and they should be able to offer advice.And having some Choctow blood in my veins,I appreciate what you are wanting to do and thank you.

Perhaps they can direct you to someone regarding the moccasins.

Status: offline 		That is the best link I can find as well Poise,if she knew which the 6 tribes that were collectively known as the Iroquois the moccasins were from,she could be directed to the individual tribe.

Status: offline 		Thank you all for your help and if you have any Iroquois frinds from the are these moc s came from, who happen to be in Australia, or planning to visit, they will be welcome to stay here and my son and I will return them .
I will try and get some pics taken and send them to you good people and maybe you can figure out where they come from by the designs on the. They are absolutely beautiful and I will miss them but they are not mine.
I was told by some native americans from other tribes who were over here that they were obviously made and worn by somebody (female) fairly important.
My family was always a bunch of rogues thieves and pirates so I would guess that's how we came by them in the dim and distant.

Status: offline 		Thanks for your ideas and good wishes but both my son and I would prefer to hand them over to a representative of either that tribe or another tribe who will pass them on to the N.E. Iropquois or the museum.
It nearly happened once but the guy got drunk, broke his leg and missed the plane and I have since lost all contact details and heard no more from the Heritage Council*smile*
Thanks again though, I will try getting in touch with some of the people you mention
