I hadn't heard. What a shame. He lived in the Woodstock area and was the first to throw a benefit for local causes. He'll be sorely missed.

Levon Helm was born and raised not far from where I live and I went to school with his neice.I only met him twice but he was fun to talk with and remembered his roots.I enjoyed his music and I'll never forget the role he played in the movie "Shooter" with Mark Wahlberg.Levon talked and acted just like the character in the movie,crusty and with a sense of humor.R.I.P. Levon,you'll be missed.

Very sad to hear this. I love the Band. He was a very talented man. A great musician and a very good actor. I loved him in Coal Miner's Daughter. Is Robbie Robertson the only living member of the Band left? I know Rick Danko and Richard are dead, not sure about Garth Hudson. Also, Bernie Taupin called the Elton John song Levon after Levon Helm, cause he liked the name.

According to Wikipedia,Garth Hudson and Robbie Robertson are the only two surviving original members of the Band.
