But let's be polite and use the phrase "Mature", Okay? Ladies and gentlemen, I can't speak for the south, the west, or anywhere in this movement that I haven't been to yet. But I can say that in towns and cities all over New England. And a VERY significant percentage of those locations, IT ISN'T out of work college students that want a forgiven loan. There are A LOT of communities where the Occupy folks are much older, yet weird as it might sounds, want corporate money out of DC, and dissolution of the Fed, and Constituent Representation over party line.
Meet the nice people of Occupy Cape Cod:

Nice!!

Occupy Erie kind of fizzled when it got cold. Then there was some power plays and I stopped going around because of that. The webmaster was even pushed out. He bought and paid for the web space from his own pocket, did all the work and some other people thought they should have control of the page because the guy who was doing our webpage didn't live in Erie County..but he was in Erie all the time. The new webpage is a joke. And I just want my stuff back...but I haven't even been able to contact anybody.

That sucks... There are plenty of resources in the OWS group in NYC now if you have a group and want to revive it. The big thing up here was the court ruled against em staying outdoors any longer, but instead of disbanding they rented a floor of a south boston warehouse and kind of turned it into a resource center for a while and the were steered toward a place with more facilities like phones, better heat, good lighting and web connectivity. Also, Occupy Cape Ann blossomed and kept a lot of us busy.
But we all got back together solidly a month ago and began the arrangements for Camp Charlie on the steps of the state house and we're basically there representing everyone who uses mass transit, which a HUGE thing in Eastern Mass. And three weeks ago the "privatized firm" whom Romney supported big time and in fact the CEO is a personal friend of Romney's announced that they were going to raise rates 25 - 35% and that there would be schedule cuts, and that was that. We have demanded the legislature step in and debate it on the floor, and come up with a better solution.
So essentially, if there is a different outcome, it's because of our efforts. The Tea Party doesn't even seem to get this is a failure of privatization and just concern themselves with the possibility that a scheme is afoot to create a new gas tax. Apparently the Tea Party is worse than cheap, they're wicked un-green. I've seen buttons around town that say "I want the freedom to DRIVE into Boston" with the "Tea Party Patriots"credited in the small print.
Anyway, we've also teamed up with City Life/Vida Urbana (clvu.org) and we do teach-ins (tennant/home owner rights) and when they call for an action we are there in strength. And their results are really becoming measurable. Certain banks now just walk up at the foreclosure sale and say "who do I give my card to concerning the restructure?". I'd call that progress.
There's still some kooks... like there are now candidates popping up in Mass that are pro-occupy and kind of modeled after Bernie Sanders and they often get a cold shoulder cause of few assholes who have a bunch of baggage over the Movement in general rejecting Ron Paul who the originally wanted to join thinking they could convert us.
I have faith that after Paul gets his nuts crushed in the GOP vise at the convention (ya know people milling around during his big moment of truth speech ... as if Pat Boone was on stage singing one of his ancient hits)... Once that happens they'll either get it or go away pissed. I am good with either.
I'm sold on this though.... as with the example above, we can be very successful, without worrying about having to be some 'perfect' movement. That's why it's fun to see the finger pointers spotting one rough spot and having a conniption fit thinking they've discovered the rosetta stone of Occupy's downfall.

2 out of three what? You AREN'T talking about people, that's for sure.
And if it's principals how can you say you are anti-corporate take-over of DC when you get on buses paid for by the Koch Brothers, and they promote hate in the name of family values like they did this weekend. The Key Speakers were SO controversial that The governor of New mexico and a US Congressman canceled besause of the Anti-Gay tone the event was taking on.

HAhaha Where'd ya learn that? some fucking web chart?
It's a free country and you can "just sayin" anything you want but it doesn't make it true.
Tea Partiers are just a disenfranchised co-opted recruiting mechanism of the republican party. So they can put on cardboard signs whatever they want. And more power two them.
What they better stop doing is creating gatherings that foment hate like they did this weekend. That'll get old with the public and the cops REAL FAST.

Yeah. Occupy really showed what experts in winning the public over they are last winter, huh?

The nicest thing Erie, is that while a lot of the non-kook Tea Party people have joined this Ron Paul rEVOLUTION thing, including a former colleague of mine who's running for a state office, as a ardent Tea Party candidate and now claims alignment with Paul. ... and in the meantime, folks come up to the State House and thank the Occupy Movement folks in Camp Charlie. I was there last week and a real businessy looking guy came up with a D&D "box of Joe" and handed it to my friend at the media desk saying "Here... I ride the T in from Newburyport all week and I figure buying you guys some coffee is a good investment. If the fair goes up to $20 round trip, I am in a world of trouble".
Fence Posts can say what they want about the movement. But lets be real, WTF besides snide remarks do they bring to the table?

FR..................

Looking forward to participating in my local GA where we can speak of unconventional tactics that will have nonsense shooting itself in the foot under it's own accord. It is a wonderful day for civics.

Occupy Pyroaquatica...... today!

Whats the sense of using an inkwell when it is far easier to use a ballpoint pen. Progress cannot be claimed from comfort or safety. May it be claimed through risk, sweat. bruises, blood and pepperspray. All in the name of non-violence.

It's sad to see the black bloc rise in some of the Occupy demonstrations. I have more thoughts I care to express on that subject.

No.... Occupy Everything has not gone away. It has only started. It will continue.... even if I am the lone force in this.

At least if they're all wearing Depends they won't have the ususal smell of urine generally associated with the OWS crowd. They should also be easier to arrest when they start rioting at Bingo parlors.

hot4bondage -> RE: There Are Many Who Would Say The Occupy Movement Is Getting Old... And They Are Right (4/19/2012 8:07:45 AM)

When I think of these two movements, I think of the phrase stamped on the backs of our coins: E Pluribus Unum, or, Out Of Many, One. It was our defacto motto until Congress made "In God We Trust" our official motto during the Red Scare. Maybe I'm being too optimistic or superficial here, but isn't it possible that these movements can combine? Maybe this "equation" will help explain what I'm thinking.

Occupy-flag burners+Tea Party-socons=the real 99% [sm=friends.gif]

So, how do we find common ground before the radicals suck the soul out of both movements?

I dont have the link handy but posted it last fall.

Occupy Memphis and TEA party Memphis met and realized they have a hell of a lot of common ground.

Truth be told, I've never been clear on how occupying a park or what-have-you would accomplish anything.

Poor Hippie. Somebody quoted me, and my post was inflicted on him...

Try looking again. It might be a little tough, since these fine, upstanding representatives of the Occupist movement are holding a flag that was vandalized, before they set it on fire for the cameras. If you count the stripes that can be clearly seen below the blue field of stars, right next to the pole, an honest person will see that that the correct number of stripes are in the right place.

Some might also notice the grinning guy, holding up the Occupy Oakland sign in the picture, just to make sure credit goes where it is due.
