I, Robot

It's getting a little closer everyday. This one is becoming pretty amazing and will likely be the one that all comers will aspire to. As computers become ever smaller and more powerful the possibilities of what this little robot can do and accomplish will continue to improve and become more amazing.

agree, only a matter of time.

i can't find it but Russia Today (RT) did a piece on a less fancy/friendly looking one - looked more like the terminator, could run up stairs, be pushed hard and keep it's balance, crouch into diff configs, arms with standard fittings for whatever you want to attach, etc.

scary that soon, our leaders will be able to wage war and kill foreigners without engaging human troops. and without at least some measure of care taken to the risk of casualties in approving a mission, not to mention the visibility and checks and balances that result from having to worry about casualties.

Yes but won't they also take over human jobs, leaving most unemployed?

sure, already happening. the irobot is a glorified showcase model. real robots already work in factories and don't look like that, and take jobs. can't avoid that, only learn how to make or repair robots.

Yes you're right. For instance, assembly lines and such, right?

why are we out of yogurt this year? yogurt is a living, reproducing creature, not a limited natural resource - we seem to have plenty of it, and as long as we have some, we can grow more.

The Mayan calendar says so.

"robots" aka computers already do my former job. All the paper is digitized, anyone can go on their home computer and pull up records and fill out forms without a single human being involved. The computer puts it all in order and spits out to the consumer what they need.

Basically these days no one really needs to work fulltime. Most businesses are now instead, employing part time and temp workers because really that's all that is needed and it saves the company's money.
