TheBanshee -> Douglas Kennedy Leaving the Hospital with Baby (4/16/2012 6:38:37 PM)

I'm a little curious about this case. The story in the news recently about Douglas Kennedy attempting to leave the hospital with his newborn son brings a number of questions to mind. For those who are interested here is a link http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0412/75101.html. In Summary Douglas Kennedy wanted to take his newborn out in the fresh air. The hospital had an issue with him and nurses confronted him and who accosted whom is up for debate. While I feel he is sort of a jerk, he didn't do anything illegal assuming the mother of this child didn't have a problem with him leaving the hospital with the baby. Yes, hospitals have policies and whatever - believe me I know, I work for a hospital. However, you are not a prisoner nor is your newborn. At any time you can walk out of a hospital - sure, they want you to sign out "Against Medical Advice" but you can walk out without signing a darn thing anyway. Their liability issues is for their legal team and quite frankly their problem, not yours as a patient. You very well may be forfeiting some legal options if you (or your newborn in this case) should suffer some ill-effects. As far as I understand this baby was healthy. The nurses, with all good intentions perhaps, confronted him and attempted to pull the baby from him - however, he was in fact the father of this child and therefore, they really had no right to stop him. What do you think?
