I am writing this because I seem to have surprised myself a bit.
In my, nearly 50 years, I've had a lot of people I really cared about, die. Rarely does it ever really bother me. I tend to get more upset seeing other people I love, be upset and hurting.
On Monday, a family friend died. It was not unexpected, not at all. He was 97. His family were not caught off guard and were able to be with him when he left this world. It was, in the very best of ways, a wonderful life led and a perfect way to end it.
I didn't even know Mauricio as well as I know other members of his family. But when I met him, there was a connection. I was drawn to him. He was such a special human being. The few conversations we did have where never fluff.
Even though everyone that was close to this man, knew his end was nearing.......it is as though knowing he is gone, there is an empty spot in the community.
The way I feel has surprised me. Granted, it is purely selfish on my part. He knew and embraced his time. Perhaps a part of it is knowing that a family, some of which are friends, lost a great patriarch.
So I wanted to share with the art lovers here, the story of a very special man.
