PeonForHer -> Getting someone to track your mobile phone (4/2/2012 4:09:34 PM)

Noble Forumeers,

Suppose you had one of these smartphones and you wanted to give somebody a means to track your movements as you travel. What's the best way to do it? Is there an Android "App" (frigging annoying word) that will work? I've tried 'Latitude' but this seems to be playing up. Anyone tried a particular "app" successfully - if so, which one?

The person who furnishes me with the best suggestion will be the lucky recipient of a picture of my naked armpit.

Peon.

I have cell service with Sprint, and they have Family Locator, which is a feature that
allows me to see where any of my family members are, simply by signing in to their site.
The thing is, they must all be on the same plan in order for it to be operable.

Do I at least get a partial picture of the armpit?

Ohhhhhh! Or maybe this would work for you?

That ought to be TWO armpit photos, and maybe a little bit of the chin too, yes? [8D]

Now that was rather impudent of you, Po, to ask for a partial picture of my glorious armpit. Yours wasn't the *best* suggestion, it was the *only* suggestion.

Thanks, though - I shall look into Sprint. :-)

There are multiple options. I understand you're asking for the best, but you might just have to slog through a few Google pages.

Verizon wireless also offers a Family Locator App for $9.99/month.

My daughter and I both have AT&T. When she was a teenager and she went on a Mediterranean cruise with her classmates, I signed up for Family Locator. It worked well for us. I always knew the whereabouts of where she was. I kept that until she moved out on her own. It was a nice thing to have when she was a teenager and out all night with her "friends" lol.

The gps one I looked at is free, but I think you have to know the person's phone number...

I think all major providers offer a family locator service, but I think you must all be on the same plan.

ETA:

I don't know much about these services, having a non-contract, but I do know that here in the states, for the phone to work in Europe, it needs a special plan (I think, know it used to), and would involved massive roaming charges.  Just something to consider.

Thanks everyone - I'll look into all those suggestions. I'm sure I can get *something* worthking!

Thank you, but no way! Your response was without a doubt the best, and therefore,
you should be awarded the picture.

peon - you don't mention what kind of phone you have. If it is an iPhone, this might help..

"Hey. For people who had apple products taken here is a site you can track them down with. www.icloud.com. Use the find my iphone app and it will pin point or a 5km radius if the product has not been wiped clean"

Thanks, YDD - but it's actually an Android. Sorry, I should have said that at the outset.
