dcnovice -> Rick Santorum's Slips of the Tongue (3/31/2012 6:18:44 PM)

Poor Rick Santorum seems to be having some trouble getting his words out.

quote:

Santorum was speaking at a rally in Janesville, Wisconsin, still locked in the ferocious nomination battle with Mitt Romney and still desperate to become the true conservative standard-bearer of the Republican party.

"We know the candidate Barack Obama, what he was like – the anti-war government nig …" he seems to say, then suddenly stopping, and changing tack to add: "America was a source for division around the world, that what we were doing was wrong."

It is hard to think of exactly what word Santorum was about to use. What word beginning with "nig-" comes naturally after government? It has been suggested he was trying to say "-nik", as in peacenik or beatnik. That is possible. Or perhaps, it was some non-specific verbal tic: a random vowel-consonent flub.

Here, Santorum has previous form. In Iowa, he stumbled when discussing conservative opposition to welfare programmes:

"I don't want to make black people's lives better by giving them somebody else's money; I want to give them the opportunity to go out and earn the money."

In the face of later outrage at singling out black Americans, he insisted that he had not said "black", but instead vocalised "bleugh", as his mind became confused over his own train of thought.

Perhaps it's time to consider a teleprompter?

Youre implying he can read one.[:D]

Good point, Hill!

I actually do understand verbal miscues. I work as a part-time tour guide, and they happen to me now and then. Still it's interesting that Mr. Frothy Mixture's come when he edges near the topic of race.

Makes me wonder what his language is like in private.

Actually I think we would be better off if he just went for a new career. Perhaps something in the fertilizer field?

Owner59 -> RE: Rick Santorum's Slips of the Tongue (4/1/2012 11:32:10 AM)

He may well be your vice presidential candidate......then you`ll have to pretend to like him......[:D]

The only reason Sarah was brought on board.......was to get the fundi/extreme-conservative vote.

The exact same calculation is now being made regarding Rick and all the votes he got.

The RNC knows they have to feed the fundies some red meat.

The announcement of Mitts running mate will be a big day.And interesting.

Do fundie-cons get thrown under the bus or does Rick become their man in the White House and future of conservatism?

Should he spread fertilizer or become fertilizer?

I don't believe the excuses for a minute. Santorum has been showing his contempt for everybody not-like-him for years. The way Santorum talks, I was afraid his goal was to replace our democratic republic with a Papist theocracy. Then I realized Santorum simply cheery picks his beliefs. He is not the good upstanding Christian he would like everybody to believe. Santorum follows all the Catholic dogma that causes the wedge issues here--gay marriage, abortion, etc. At the same time, he ignores Catholic teaching about taking care of the "lesser of us", is against any type of welfare (unless it is corporate welfare), against equality for many of us.

In short, Santorum is a bigoted, hateful, arrogant hypocrite.

It happens, sometimes. I remember when Clinton brought Gore onto the ticket. Of course, I never even pretended to like it.

Owner59 -> RE: Rick Santorum's Slips of the Tongue (4/1/2012 12:01:14 PM)

Pretending to like Ricky isn`t going to be any easier than pretending to be a democrat.

TheHeretic -> RE: Rick Santorum's Slips of the Tongue (4/1/2012 12:08:28 PM)

And both are still easier than pretending to be someone with values...

Maybe he can just spray fertilising and frothy mixture on being bought a good fibre rich meal or two?

The very model of a modern neocon political whore, (as WS Gilbert didn't quite put it), you mean?

You may think you have to back anyone with a d besides their name, but I don't buy into that us against them bullshit. I will vote for the one I feel will do the best job regardless of which side they sit on.

The only reason Sarah was brought on board.......was to get the fundi/extreme-conservative vote.
Thats your opinion and I will give it the same consideration I give most of your opinions.

To you, I am sure it will be.

I can't imagine Rick being the future of anything. But he gives you something to froth over, so it's all good.

I don't know. I think he is qualified for either.
