How's this to the folks who don't believe in the death penalty?

If it isn't a family member, take whoever it is and chopper his ass into the middle of nowhere in Afghanistan and leave him there.
2 days before you drop him off, tell the local Taliban what he did and where he'll be. Then watch him run.

I read Bernard Kerik's book. In it, he stated his mother was also beaten to death. When I read that, I tried to imagine what sort of person would hit someone to insensibility, THEN KEEP GOING?

When I saw the movie, "The Killer Inside Me" I wondered the same thing. Losing control and striking someone in anger is one thing. It's still unacceptable, but a little more understandable than beating someone to death. Horrifying, absolutely horrifying.

If this is what it looks like, in the scarcity of facts, I'll repeat that they better catch this killer quickly. It reminds me of the LA area serial/spree killer who was killing the homeless with a Rambo, with each attack growing progressively more brutal. I think the last victim had over 60 stab wounds.

Before we get to that sort of manhunt though, do we have an earlier threatening note, or just a report of one they didn't report? What were the relationships like in the house? Who was home?

I understand the rush to accuse politically didn't work out so well in the recent string of murders in France. It might be the case here, as well.

I hear what you are saying and I agree. The situation should be thoroughly investigated before any conclusions are drawn.

As an aside - If the police would have been thorough in Florida, the (uncollected) evidence and testimony might or might not have exonerated Zimmerman already.

Here is the update on this one. I'm curious if the family has returned to the US, since the funeral in Iraq.

and can we get something right, here? A "phobic" is someone who suffers from a "phobia" which is an irrational fear of something.

This can only be one of two things:

Someone who hates Islamic people

Or ... as Rich suggested; someone trying to make it look like it's someone who hates Islamic people.

According to my "buddy" Bill "The Palin" Maher, murdering someone in cold blood takes a certain amount of bravery so, I doubt there was an irrational fear. This killer just hates Middle-Easterners.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Really? That's what Bill Mahar said?

That's what he said about the plane hijackers on the al queda demolition programme back in 2001. I think that was why Politically Incorrect got yanked, as a matter of fact.
(Of course, DS is slightly distorting what Maher said: his reference to bravery referred to suicide bombings and plane crashes, rather than the sort of cold blooded murder where you won't even bark your knuckles punching somebody in the face.)

I'm not sure the hijackers were brave. I do believe they had nerves of steel.

That was Maher's point, iirc: they were willing to die to make a point (and kill a lot of people they regarded as undesirables). Possibly psychosis rather than bravery, but showing a bit more backbone than using guided missiles to kill people, if nothing else.

What's the difference? Aren't those two things pretty much synonymous?

I wouldn't mind betting that there's at least a smidgeon of psychosis in any extreme act of bravery that people have generally applauded. *Sudden recollection of watching Peter O'Toole as Lawrence of Arabia*

Quite probably.
