My local partner left for Austin Thursday (after enraging me by being late due to trying to copy some CDs). He and my other partner are going apartment hunting today and tomorrow to seal our fate.

We decided DCS should go because he's the oldest, has better credit and the funds to lay down a payment if we want right now. I also wanted DCS and the NV to spend some quality alone time together- if they are going to rub eachother wrong, I want to know NOW, and want to give them an opportunity to "do something together" and see how they function as a team.

It also meant saving money on a ticket for me and it looks less weird having two guys apartment search with eachother than two guys and a girl obviously in love with them both.

Talking to them both on the phone Thursday night was hard though. Up until now I really haven't been terribly enthusiastic about the move- it's stressful, it's work, it's Big Change. But hearing them together, specially with me not there with them, I felt very envious and finally truly EXCITED about the prospect of us being together day to day.

It's weird how often that happens- you don't care much until you aren't part of it, and then you realize how much you need it (yes yes Joni Mitchell said it much better decades ago).

The NV was amazing with this, contacting people, setting up appointments to walk through places. DCS made a spreadsheet to keep track. I felt like such a slacker.

Yesterday and today they did major apartment searching stuff.  They called me up this afternoon to give me the rundown and their final picks.  I was very tired and cranky after a long day of riding the metro with some of the track shut down, but listened.

I felt weird giving them an OK on something- I hadn't seen the place, I had to rely solely on their judgement and how they related it to me.  I asked them both if it was sincerely was they felt was best and that they were not just trying to agree to make the other person feel good and get along.  They laughed and assured me that it was indeed their own best choice.

What they said sounded good and like we'd gone over what we could.  Since we'd had several discussions before this weekend about the necessary points, I was feeling pretty good about it.  But still, what could I say other than "It sounds good and reasonable and let's go for it."

Which they did.  PAperwork has been put through and it looks like we're aiming for a mid-July move (best time of the year eh?) to Austin, to the Riata Apartments.

That's quite a move, LA. Peace and happiness to you and your partners.

WOW!  Em, that is awesome.  I can say that when i moved from Michigan to Arizona it was a huge leap in many directions.  One was the fact that Thorns bought this house and i had only seen a picture of it.  I know how mind blowing that alone can be.
On another side here.  Thorns is down in Killeen, Tx working/training for the next 8 months, when He is able to come home, which is not much, He flies out of Austin (cheaper than Killeen).  He is talking about flying me down and just staying in Austin for a few days and seeing the city.  I would enjoy seeing y'all.
I hope the move goes smoothly for all of you, i wish you the best of luck!

I haven't visited Austin lately, but I can say that the area's nice.  Good luck with your move.  Be sure to stay hydrated, as the summers in Texas suck.  If you enjoy hiking at all, you're in luck.  The hill country's right close to Austin.  If you like small towns and german food, go check out Fredericksburg once you're settled.

Best wishes.

Thank you all for your auspport.  DCS returns this afternoon and we'll take it from there.  Moving is really one of the most stressful acts we put ourselves through in life.  I'm just hoping we don't have the same disasters we had when we moved the NV out there last summer (lost our transmission out in TN)

While few cities can compare to the scene life of DC/Baltimore, Austin does have a happy and active poly/kink scene that I look forward to getting to know better.

We also do not plan for Austin to be our final destination.  Once the NV finishes his PhD, we'll be looking to decide where to go next.

But this next month and a half is going to be very hectic and busy.  Thanks again for the well wishes.

LA you will love Austin...it's such an upbeat city.  When i lived in Houston, i would find any excuse for a weekend get-a-way there.   You'll really appreciate it come January when the northeast is covered in that white stuff.

The move will suck...but you know that going into it so no big surprise... You deal with it  knowing you will reap the rewards soon enough.

Best wishes...

Best of luck to you on the move, and congrats on the new apartment.  Looks like a really nice place to live, and I think you're gonna love Texas.

I happen to LIKE that white stuff in moderation and I don't like heat much (yes this worries both of my partners)

But yes, after the NV living in Austin the past year, and DCS being FROM Austin and living there several years, I feel it's the right move for now.

Very cool - not just the physical move but the jump from three households into one.  Congratulations!

So...who is the best cook?
