New Device Makes Wheelchairs Obsolete

While this is primarily limited to paraplegics it is still an amazing advancement in technology for those that need it.

Some years back a friend of mine was looking for a way to modify a wheelchair for someone he knew to make the seat go up and down to change elevation for access to high reaches. Looks like this company has perhaps an ideal solution.

This is very cool, I'm going to bring this clip into our classroom as we were discussing ambulation aids recently. The problem with the standing wheelchairs already on the market is that they are very bulky and limited. I looked up the cost for these devices, they are expecting them to cost around $15,000 in the US. That's way out of reach for many people, but not anywhere near the cost of some of the tilt in space chairs- a vendor brought one into our classroom that was $25,000 and there are some that cost much more.

Considering that the average spinal cord patient is a 29 year old male, this is a great improvement for them as there will likely be no improvement in their condition. This is also save a lot of money in caretaker hours as the users can do much more for themselves.

I'll be really curious to see how this goes, looks like a wonderful thing.

One of my agents' son is 22 and was in a motorcycle wreck last year and has a spinal injury. This is in an email to him right now.

Hmmm... A powered exoskeleton! Throw in some powered arms and suite of enhanced ensor and com gear, and you'll have the makings of a super-efficient workman...or the soldier of tomorrow.

Not just part of their lives, but also a tremendous portion of their freedoms.

There actually was, about a year or so ago.  It was a stand up scooter that may have been the predecessor/inspiration for this.

this is awesome,
but as i know "they are from turkey", (yousef = joseph).
if you happen to see that

which has in the apper pot (huge ammount of tea leves with small ammount of water) which can make a very strong tea..
in the under pot its just water..
but that pot, is for the most extream tea drinkers, .... which by the way is the Turkish... not the British...

I think this is a pretty important product. I was also impressed by the apartment with the closet! Amazing. And very heartening.

What I did wonder was how it was, going over things like door jams. Outside the ground's got to be very uneven. So while this is an improvement there's going to have be be even more improvement. And this makes me feel we're moving in a good direction. I think this product will in fact save money since the user is pretty self sufficient. There's just no way to do this stuff cheap. It would be nice if insurance could pay.

Thanks for sharing!
