LOL! Yeah, let's do it this summer! I always wanted a wedding BBQ!

GreedyTop -> RE: Solo marriages (3/18/2012 12:39:28 PM)

we could do a double wedding! You do BBQ, and I'll do sushi!! *grin*

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Solo marriages (3/18/2012 12:41:32 PM)

I LOVE SUSHI!!

Aand we can justify all that cake I buy! (I still get to marry Simon, right?)

mynxkat -> RE: Solo marriages (3/18/2012 12:41:44 PM)

On one hand, seems kind of pointless. What does the person marrying themself get out of it? Do they have to divorce themself if they meet someone else they'd like to marry down the road? If the person does decide to divorce themself, how does he or she deal with property and custodial issues? (Silly questions, I know, but you can be damn sure that if this catches on someone WILL ask them and actually mean it.)

On the other hand, I can see where it could be used for great personal positive affirmation.

But, if you really feel the need to go to such lengths to affirm your belief in yourself... um... doesn't it kind of come across as a 'the lady doth protest too much' sort of thing? Why not just throw an "I'm single and happy and free" party? Or if what you're looking for is presents, throw an unbirthday party.

You and Simon and me = Poly? HELL YEAH!!!!

GreedyTop -> RE: Solo marriages (3/18/2012 12:47:03 PM)

it would be interesting to see what the reponses from the "marriage is between adam and eve, not adam and steve" political adherents would be.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Solo marriages (3/18/2012 12:49:17 PM)

Mynxcat, I am taking this as an excuse for a party with CAKE! And for the lady in the article, telling those well meaning family and friends that she's just fine, thanks.

We can include Ash, right Greedy? For our CougarPoints(tm)?

GreedyTop -> RE: Solo marriages (3/18/2012 12:50:21 PM)

oh HELL yeah.. AND he has a brother!!

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Solo marriages (3/18/2012 12:59:47 PM)

Yeah but I don't know the brother...jussst because Ash is a sweetie, you never know.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Solo marriages (3/18/2012 1:01:28 PM)

No fair, you're already married!

GreedyTop -> RE: Solo marriages (3/18/2012 1:01:33 PM)

*ducks and runs*

mynxkat -> RE: Solo marriages (3/18/2012 1:01:47 PM)

Hell, LadyHibiscus, you don't need an excuse to have a party with cake! The cake is enough reason to have a party right there. Especially if you're also going to include tasty bbq and sushi and cute guys and gals.

Yea, I got that she did that as a way of telling folks that she was doing ok. Which, hey, whatever floats her boat.

Wait a minute...can i marry me if i am already married to Jim?

Does that make me a polygamist?

Does it make the LoudOne my step-son as well as my son?

This is all so confusing...

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Solo marriages (3/18/2012 1:04:08 PM)

at least *I* don't need bubblewrap!! PLUS - I has teh tiredness, combined with neighbors using powertools and playing REALLY LOUD MUSIC right now. *sigh* Guess I'll be doing the catnap thing at work tonight.

BUT all that aside, I vote we invite Holly and Jim into the polysnortatious arrangement, Hibbie (I mean, Jim has to work and SOMEONE has to keep Holly away from staircases/vicious microwave ovens/deadly doorknobs/etc. not to mention anything resembling meatloaf ingredients, except in times of war...) *nods sagely*

littlewonder -> RE: Solo marriages (3/18/2012 1:30:27 PM)

I don't get the purpose. Seems like a lot of work and expense just to self affirm yourself as happy as a single person.

Or is this another protest against single people paying more taxes?
