kalikshama -> Jon Stewart Tells Fox News To ‘Shut The F*ck Up’ About Bill Maher’s Offensive Rants (3/14/2012 4:04:22 PM)

Jon Stewart began his show continuing the news narrative before it was rudely interrupted by another election night: “radio shock-blob Rush Limbaugh” saying something offensive on his radio show. A rare occurrence on what Stewart called his “Noon-3 Mouth Dump,” he joked, but he found the counterweight to the outrage– outrage over Bill Maher saying other stuff on his show– a bit too much, particularly when there are, he explained, consequences to the jokes you make.

While noting that the right had given an homage to Limbaugh on the House floor shortly after 9/11, he noted the worst Maher had used for Republican women– words with Cs and Ts in them. He agreed that they were offensive, but joked to Fox News commentators bringing them up: “let’s get back to what really matters in America: whether Obama is a Sunni or a Shi’ite.” He then played a montage of Fox News commentators complaining that comedians hide under their “clown noses” and “helmets” and are immune to criticism. That, Stewart attested, was just false. “When you’re doing it in a club, there are repercussions– ask Michael Richards and Tracy Morgan. When you do it on television, there are repercussions– ask me,” he argued, playing a clip of Fox News calling him racist.

But it wasn’t just Fox News, he explained, it was the hate mail, “envelopes, some of them handwritten, some of them with white powder.” He remarked that “when I got into comedy, I didn’t think the white powder I’d be getting was anthrax,” and warned the audience to please not snort anthrax. A fairly argumentative rather than joke-filled anti-Fox segment on the Daily Show wouldn’t be complete without some profanity, however, so Stewart concluded: “Fox: shut the fuck up about how victimized you and you alone are. Nobody cares.”

My favorite part of Jon Stewert's analysis:

If, as FOX says, it's okay for Rush Limbaugh to call the woman a slut because Rush is "just a comedian", then it's okay for Bill Maher to call Sarah Palin a cunt - after all, Bill is "just a comedian" too (and often, much funnier).

I believe it is called inference and Fox Commentators were justifying his ability to demean women in a non-consensual way by saying (and this is paraphrasing) "Oh that is just silly Rush" or whatever his name is.

The comment was he was being "absurd".

And, yes, it was all over Fox

There seems to be a lot of controversy on freedom of speech as I gather from other threads as well.
Here is my simple opinion on it.

Politicians should refrain themselves from pure hatespeech.
example Geert Wilders, he wanted to tax headscarves for muslims. Thats his choice, but he called it head-rag tax. That is spreading hatred. Politicians are rolemodels IMO.

Comedians have the right to use anything, its comedy and even if its hatefull, people should judge themselves and counterattack when they want.

The newsrooms can be biased of course and can use terms like sluts all they want. Problem is any newsrooms using profanity to make a point should not be considered a valuable source by the public.
Journalists have a right to to state their opinions. We the public should demand that those opinions are backed up with logic and should be able to verify through a reliable source. Otherwise we should regard those opinions questionable.

Like with the anti gay thing. You can say its unnatural and detrimental. But without backup to support such a statement we should consider it an empty statement.

Just a raw thought, like a sketch, take it as it sounds good to you. And build on it to refine it.

I think its a pretty good guideline to start with.
Is this off topic?[:D]

I'm not going to give you the time stamp because I don't want you to miss Rush being made an honorary member of Congress in 1994, chosen to be honored with a bust in the Missouri state capital, or the official tribute to Rush Limbaugh on the House floor Oct 2001.

I simply feel like I have to post a link to this Daily Show segment, from two years ago. It's relevant to this thread. And funny enough that I still remember it after two years, and was willing to spend the time to find it and dredge it up.

I won't go into the context of the segment, because the segment, itself does that. (It's 11 minutes long.)

And I don't want to ruin the funny parts.
