Over the last several years, my Administration has developed an effective, sustainable framework for the detention, interrogation and trial of suspected terrorists that allows us to maximize both our ability to collect intelligence and to incapacitate dangerous individuals in rapidly developing situations, and the results we have achieved are undeniable. Our success against al-Qa'ida and its affiliates and adherents has derived in significant measure from providing our counterterrorism professionals with the clarity and flexibility they need to adapt to changing circumstances and to utilize whichever authorities best protect the American people, and our accomplishments have respected the values that make our country an example for the world.

What does that mean? that Obamas people have learned to waterboard better than Bush's people did? [8|]

Its been 10 years since 9/11, OBL is dead, but now the US needs even more laws and power? And until the civil liberty people raised a big stink, Americans were included in this new law.. and all it will take is one incompetent home grown nutbar bomber type caught in a sting to get Americans easily included.. again..

No, all it would take is ANY US President deciding to change policy. The law is now in force. Obama is basically deciding not to take advantage of his new powers. He can change his mind at any time, or any future President can decide differently.
A new terrorist attack would make such an action more likely and more popular, but making the change doesn't have to be publically announced. The government could just quietly start taking people.

That there have been attempted attacks since OBL was killed is public record.
By Americans and foreigners.
Terrorism isnt going away, homegrown assholes or foreign assholes.
All it would take is ONE bomb attack, and everyone would be screaming for more than his head. For not keeping the country safe as well as he possibly can. The NDAA was against terror suspects that has to include american citizens because they are also causing terror attacks.
Wether you like it or not... terrorism is insidious and hidden and tactics HAVE to adapt to the forces in play. I dont like it, but Yes, waiving it, makes a difference. FOR NOW.After the election.... allbets are off
God help the situation if the repubs win. All you need is crazy Iranians bombing up the joint
Its been almost 40 years since the UK was the target of mad bastard bombers. I dont like the restrictions in my homeland, but having been a victim of bomb attacks personally I can understand them.

There has always been terrorism, well before attacks were labelled as terrorism.. and there always will be terrorist attacks.. I never said otherwise.. but what has been in place has worked pretty well for 10 years so why now the need for even more? What has changed now?

And its not so much the laws as they were intended that is the problem, imo,.. its how the laws will be manipulated and turned into something they were never meant to be that is, imo.. all one has to do is look at how the US forfeiture laws have turned police from upholding the law to basically using the law to become thieves themselves... In Seattle, the cops used money forfeited by fishermen to buy an expensive $300,000 boat for them to party on, the supposed "legal" reason cited for needing it was to spy on whale watchers.. and look at how TSA has abused laws too, forcing women to remove piercings for no reason, old people subjected to strip searches, seizing cupcakes, etc.. and many more examples of various laws being abused.. When it comes to laws, I just dont trust those in charge of enforcing them..

Imo, 2 or 3 months after Obama is re-elected, Americans will be included again.. And, imo, those 4 addtional years he will bring in even more restrictive laws, he will give the IRS more power, he will go after illegal immigrants even more.. and you will see some variation of that pipeline quickly approved also.. anything that has met with public opposition this term will be on the fast track in Obamas last term.. JMO, of course

Not the US govt and not any of the US police.. You are in Canada and its a different world there.. people there can light up a joint in front of a cop and nothing happens to them.. try that in the US and see what happens.. lol ..in the US city halls confiscate land/property supposedly "for the common good" but in reality for their developer friends to profit from and them to get an under the table kick back.. corruption is at all levels of govt here.. where you have corruption, you have the enforcers of laws breaking them or abusing them for their reasons/profit..

Ahem.....
Oh Fellow!
http://www.politicususa.com/en/edited-ndaa-video

So this is rather embarrassing.

It turns out that the edited NDAA video of Carl Levin that was inaccurately cited in the mainstream media as proof that Obama wanted to detain US citizens was originally posted by a spammer. As we know, the President did not ask for language giving him the right to detain US citizens, he asked for the opposite. But that story wouldn’t get very many clicks for a spammer…..

Thanks to the hard work of several writers, we now know the truth behind the tin foil hat insanity trip of the edited Levin NDAA video that went viral. Congratulations, mainstream media – you got PWNED by a spammer.

Matt Osborne of Osborne Ink uncovered that spammers were behind the edited video:

I would like to see the original video allegedly modified. The session on C-Span Politicus provides as an evidence is a different session (why?).

Lucylastic -> RE: Indefinite Military Detention: President Obama Waives It For Americans (2/29/2012 12:32:09 PM)

Let me know when you find it:)

Why PoliticusUSA tries to present something as a proof that is not?

mnottertail -> RE: Indefinite Military Detention: President Obama Waives It For Americans (2/29/2012 1:03:18 PM)

Well, it may be that youtube is not the codex we are seeking, either.

Lucylastic -> RE: Indefinite Military Detention: President Obama Waives It For Americans (2/29/2012 1:06:10 PM)

you dont know that its a lie, so let me know when you prove it is, then you can tell politicus to change it. Seeing as I dont have anything to do with the article or the site, im not going to piddle around doing your "conspiracy" work.

Fellow -> RE: Indefinite Military Detention: President Obama Waives It For Americans (2/29/2012 1:13:48 PM)

Also, Politicus does not say the video was edited, but it was posted by a "spammer". Session Nov 17 (they show) obviously precedes the session the statement was made.

It is not a conspiracy, we are looking at facts. What difference it makes who posted them a "spammer" or a law-abiding good citizen?

provfivetine -> RE: Indefinite Military Detention: President Obama Waives It For Americans (2/29/2012 1:25:37 PM)

It makes no difference.

This is simply a PR move to appeal to Obama's kool-aid drinking crowd.

Lucylastic -> RE: Indefinite Military Detention: President Obama Waives It For Americans (2/29/2012 1:29:56 PM)

yeah RT is as questionable as youtube for facts.
