WTF I've never seen this happen before in Kansas. Considering the unusually warm winter, I look for this summer to be scorching hot with loads of bugs.

DesFIP -> RE: tornado warning in February (2/28/2012 7:18:13 PM)

We had thunder and lightning the other night during snow flurries. Normally we only get that during summer storms.

outhere69 -> RE: tornado warning in February (2/28/2012 7:20:52 PM)

Kentucky had one last week.

We have the same thing in Seattle.....last week I was in Kansas....someone said "bud!!!! How can you handle it there???? It rains every fucking day in Seattle!!!"

I explained to them, they were wrong.....there's always 3 days in August that are always perfectly dry.

One dead in Missouri…Branson devastated…Illinois has at least 10 dead. It is dangerous living in the mid-west.

This is where I am from. I moved to St. Louis from Branson a few years ago. Packing the car up to go help my parents and brother. They will be returning to the Lou with me. So sad I grew up in that house!

Yeah. . . an average of nearly every other year equals NEVER seeing it before. [8|]

Between 1980 and 2009 there were 12. Just so you know they can happen AND have happened in January and December as well.

Have you NEVER heard the phrase, "Tornado Alley?"

LaTigresse -> RE: tornado warning in February (2/29/2012 1:45:46 PM)

I am always pleased when I get through spring and summer without seeing a tornado. Just part of living in the middle!

Aylee -> RE: tornado warning in February (2/29/2012 3:58:25 PM)

Roscoe had his first trip to the basement last night. At not even six months old! I do not remember Butterhead's age at her first trip, but she was pretty little as well. At an age where being fed and held kept her content.

soul2share -> RE: tornado warning in February (3/1/2012 3:58:13 PM)

If memory serves me, I actually put out a tornado warning on December 12, 1999. It was almost 80 degrees. This was in Collinsville, IL, right across the river from St. Louis. On New Year's Day, it was back down to freezing and we had baseball sized hail in my front yard. I've never experienced hail that big, and I was totally FREAKED! My son, who was 14 at the time, told me they get that all the time.....I'm waiting for the roof to fall in, he's playing games on his PS.

Right now, we're hitting close to the 80's here....as I type, it's 78 degrees out, my a/c is on because of the God-awful humidity. This time last year, we were freezing all the way down to Miami. Flowers are blooming and trees have buds. Call it global warning or whatever, the weather has been getting stranger and stranger with each passing year.

I also spent 10 years living in Tornado Alley......in OK, MO, IA and IL. Give me blizzards over that shit any day! And just out of curiosity.....WHY do people go OUTSIDE when the sirens go off? WTF?????? I'm grabbing the cat, dog and the phone and running for the bathtub, and as I pass the window, there are idiots OUTSIDE! And I have no idea why I grabbed the phone......false sense of security I guess.

Probably to check and see if it is really a siren for a tornado. There are other sirens ya know. Chemical Plants and Storage Facilities have Warning Sirens, Volunteer Fire Departments, and Civil Emergency. They may also be looking for mammatocumulus clouds.

Hillwilliam -> RE: tornado warning in February (3/1/2012 11:17:51 PM)

We almost never have tornadoes here in the mountains.[:)]

soul2share -> RE: tornado warning in February (3/2/2012 6:23:22 PM)

I don't know Aylee, green outside, totally still , middle of a storm......under a tornado wach for hours.....just seems to me that common sense would prevail. I've never gone out to check out any siren, but maybe my sense of preservation is just a little stronger than some. I hear sirens with an active tornado watch in effect, my butt is hiding! The deeper, the better! [8|]

MalcolmNathaniel -> RE: tornado warning in February (3/2/2012 10:05:50 PM)

Had a hurricane here on the 24th.

I said, and I quote, "Pfffft!"

Then a small twister almost knocked me off the road.

Where you ask! Roanoke Va. of all places.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: tornado warning in February (3/2/2012 10:25:25 PM)

Winds are gusting to 50mph right now. No ice or twisters, thank goodness. Touchdowns are rare here though in the flatter counties they hit every year.

Hippiekinkster -> RE: tornado warning in February (3/3/2012 1:57:01 AM)

Touchdown about 10 miles N-NW of me (Woodstock-Holly Springs-Canton area)(I'm near Mt. Bethel, Marietta). Some damage. Canton w/o water. Guy in alc. store said lights were out about a mile or so west of me, Old Canton Rd. He said something about the area where the Whole Foods is, near me, but I didn't catch it. Temp's dropped about 15F. Heavy rain & lightning about 2 hours ago, tapering off. Friend called me ≈ 2100h - tornado warning 'cause she knows I don't have cable, but I heard the sirens.

But the righties tell me that GCC is a myth, right? Yeah, we get tornadoes here in N. GA every winter NOT. [8|]

Here in St Louis county the National weather service sets off the sirens even if a tornado is suspected in an adjoining county...Too many false alarms that way and people start to ignore them.

I like the systems that can send an emergency phone call that only calls in the suspected path of the storm...too expensive for most I guess.

An interesting tornado fact for you:
The deadliest and strongest tornadoes occur in March and April. More F5 tornadoes occur at this time than any other month. So keep an eye in the sky.

Where have you been? Here in Kansas, we use the Enhanced Fujita Scale. [8|]

Just take your old and outdated Fujita Scale away.

You do know that the EF Scale is a damage indicator, right?

ashjor911 -> RE: tornado warning in February (3/3/2012 5:31:57 PM)

My prayers are with you, all of you under the attack of nature.
Hopefully, it will pass, with no damage at all.
