The approaching defeat of the looney Right in the 2012 is not just a matter of urgency for the USA and the survival of democracy there - it is important for the future of the whole world.

I doubt there's a country in the world (Saudi Arabia possibly excepted) where people like Frothy Mix would gain such prominence. Everyone I know regards it as a kind of aberrant moment, a temporary madness, in US politics as they shake their heads sadly and uncomprehendingly.

There is a certain schadenfreunde in watching the religious wrong self-destruct on a national scale. But it hasn't quite happened yet. So please don't relax guys, until the election is over and the relgious wrong and looney right is consigned to history's trash can.

You owe it to yourselves - and the entire world.

The conservatives have won at least three elections over here because self righteous idiots think that tactical voting is immoral, it might be worth remembering.

No, it is because people who are not happy with the Conservatives, still refuse to vote for Labour. Blair and Brown ensured they wont get back in for quite a while. Probably because they privatised more jobs than the dreaded Lady T.

One very hot lady. The fact she can double as Mrs T is just the icing on the cake.

I was thinking more of the libdems handing over two general elections to Thatcher during the '80s by splitting the protest vote and that fiasco which elected Roderick Spode's retarded blonde cousin as the Mayor of London than the last general election.

"On Tuesday, I wrote about how Republicans would have a fighting chance at this contraception debate if they stayed on the message that it was only about religious liberty, but because their visceral need to slut-shame is so great that they just can't do it. They are incapable of applying their habitual message discipline to this issue because they really, really hate the idea of women being on control of their own sexuality.

The very next night, during the latest GOP Cavalcade of Clowns, the point was illustrated perfectly. Gingrich and Romney stayed on-message, insisting that birth control isn't an issue and it was all about freedom to worship as one pleases and people's "conscience."

But Santorum couldn't do it -- he launched into a long diatribe about how perverse our culture had become depraved and bizarrely implied that birth control leads to more children being born out of wed-lock.

And then Ron Paul, responding to the idea that birth control "causes immorality," said: I don't see it that way. I think the immorality creates the problem of wanting to use the pills. So you don't blame the pills. I think it's sort of like the argument -- conservatives use the argument all the time about guns. Guns don't kill, criminals kill."

Having suggested that having sex is immoral -- and let's be very clear here: this includes married couples, the vast majority of whom use contraceptives -- and then gone on to compare it with criminals shooting up the joint, the crowd gave him a huge ovation.

They just can't help themselves. And as TPM notes, it's taking a toll on the presumed front-runner..."
