Ironic about Oklahoma. They, along with most of the "Bible Belt", have high rates of out-of-wedlock births, teenage birth, and divorce. Texas wins for teenage pregnancy. Guess that abstinence-only stuff works.

This country is so damn nuts about sex. It's used endlessly for marketing. European countries are hella better at contraception, and they ain't all prudes over there.

Interestingly enough, there was a bill put forth stating that before a man gets a prescription for Viagra or other ED meds, he must have a prostate exam to rule out possible prostate disorders. That bill was voted down with a slam dunk. Odd how men are encouraged to get it up, keep it up, possibly knock a woman up, and women get no real say in their reproductive concerns. Women in Virginia have been dropped several notches on the food chain... from humans to brood mares.

As a matter of fact, I used to raise em for 4h projects. The real trick is getting them to NOT be prolific.

Okay thanks for the warning... Folks, we better start bracing for a HUGE increase in Special Education Program costs in the coming years... Particularly in Oklahoma.

Yeah, what a surprise. You can't mess around with men's ability to spread the seed, but the women get to take the brunt of the aftermath.

Side story....a company I worked for had some financial difficulties, so they cut way back on healthcare benefits. As I was going over the pharmacy benefits, I noticed that certain medications were not covered, and one of those was Viagra. I was talking to our HR rep and mentioned that fact, and she was very surprised, though we had a chuckle over it. She said she was going to bring it up at their next benefits meeting, and sure enough, next year, Viagra was added to the plan, lol.

When I was pregnant with my first son, the doctor, being fairly new in practice, did not have an ultrasound machine. She assured me that they were overused and largely unnecessary. Three years later, when I was pregnant again, she had bought herself one. All of a sudden, she was more than anxious to give ultrasounds, at 400 bucks a pop.

I tended. To agree with her first opinion. As for this Virginia legislation, it is strictly punitive. The governor of that state has already said that he believes abortions are nothing more than a convenience. These con assholes want to drag us kicking and screaming back to the 15th century. HELL NO, I WON'T GO.

The similarities between the Christian religious right in this country and the Taliban are becoming fairly chilling.

Except that the Muslims are more rational than the Christian Extremists, in that they generally follow the Jewish thinking in this which is "Ensoulment happens at the Quickening", and therefore first-trimester procedures aren't problematical.

Chew on that Anti-Abortion Nutjobs. YOU MAKE THE MUSLIM EXTREMISTS LOOK RATIONAL.

Non-consensual inanimate object penetration constitutes rape in the Code of Virginia. If the woman doesn't consent, she can't get the abortion. So, it means the state is dictating to the doctors WHAT procedures they must perform. So... my senators and representatives can tell a doctor what to do to a woman??? Are they on the OB/GYN Board? Hell no.

What I hope for Virginia is that like the point you make is that it's SUCH a fucking trainwreck. Some female patient just takes it right to the courts in as extreme a complaint as can be written and puts some doctor's ass in the frying pan. Serves them right anyway since we're not exactly seeing walkouts at all the facilities offering OB/Gyn services as WE SHOULD.

Ya know though, women could literally strangle the Drs into action given their level of specialization.
The women of VA should all get together and say in the month of April or May, CANCEL ALL DISCRETIONARY OB/GYN appoinments for the WHOLE MONTH.
Watch how fast the Drs hit the streets for them. It doesn't take a genius to figure out why you specialize as an OB/Gyn... And it AIN'T to see all the vaginas your eyes can handle.($$$$).

I agree with you here......but I'm sure she also started getting badgered by the moms who wanted those photos they take and to find out the sex of the baby, lol.

I'm with you, though. I never had an ultrasound with any of my pregnancies.

Simple solution, DNA test every man in VA, and make child support by any man who gets a woman pregnant automatic at say, 30% of their pay. You will see birth control and abortion be completely legal the next day!

So I've known about these fibroids for at least 13 years, and every single ultrasound has shown no problems with my endometrium, yet in order for my VA GYN to give me a prescription for Prometrium, I needed to have a uterine biopsy to rule out endometrial cancer. This pissed me off, because when I had civilian health insurance, there was no such requirement. But because I've been trying to get the Prometrium from the VA for 3 years, I consented, even though I felt coerced.

Normally, I have no problem with GYN procedures, and even get off on them a bit, but I was in a foul mood after this coerced invasive uterine biopsy, and ended up being sick for a week.

Dr. Christiane Northrup is good on the patriarchal medical model and I highly recommend the first chapter of "Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom" - The Patriarchal Myth: The Origin of the Mind/Body/Emotion Split. I've always been able to get her books from the library, and own my favorite.

I suspect, at least in your case, that different doctors simply have different opinions about what works best. While I could agree or disagree if I knew more, at least is sounds like they're trying to make medical decisions based upon what they perceive as medically-necessary tests. That, unfortunately, has nothing to do whatsoever with an abortion procedure in the absence of some prior uterine issues, and, in any case, it should be the doctor deciding what he/she needs to see...not some politician. I wonder what men would say if politicians mandated that a simple UA required catheterization for a male! THAT might be interesting.

I disagree.

I had thought that a pre-abortion ultrasound was standard. Apparently this is not so.

I, like 10% of women, do not have a normally shaped uterus. This means that real harm, meaning hemorrhaging, can and will occur with an abortion. Y'all seem to be okay with this. You tell me that there is no medical necessity. When I would die from blood loss from an abortion done with no pre-sonogram.

I see this law in Virginia as a step away from back-alley abortions. You would all prefer that I step closer to one.

If you already know that your anatomy is not "standard-issue," it would be up to you to go somewhere that does the ultrasound to protect your health interests. For the rest of women who don't want a non-medically trained man dictating to our doctors what they MUST do, we say hell no.

As to the part of your post I have highlighted, I have no idea wtf you are talking about, but it's not the first time. Just sayin...

An abnormally shaped or malpositioned uterus can be determined with a routine pelvic exam unless a woman is very obese.  This would be an exam a doctor who was performing an abortion would do anyway.   If irregularities are found an ultrasound can be ordered to be sure all landmarks are noted before inserting any instruments.
I don't believe the previous responses showed any desire to put women with funny uteri at risk.

I may know that I am not *non standard* issues. What about the rest of the 10% that do not? It was an unfortunate accident?

No. It needs a CT scan at least. A look by a sono would be great That would start the paper work to a CT

"landmarks are noted," By th by, those landmarks are a risk.
