ORIGINAL: kitkat105 You have to be extreme these days to get people's attention. Not really. All they're doing, is to make people numb. Desensitization. Unless they're also looking to get revolutionary, they need to keep things at a level where it can be taken seriously without people either burning out or ceasing to care. Most of the people I know that have any serious interest in animal welfare are allergic to even being reminded that PETA exists, let alone having to deal with all their revelling in the suffering of animals. You'd think they got off on it, the way they tend to dig in every time there's more animal suffering to be watched. Maybe they do get a rise out of it, for all I know. A lot of whackjobs go to places they can indulge without feeling guilty. Me, I have a limit on how much I can take in without tuning out. Children and animals get empathy and protector instincts out of me, and there's a distinct point at which dealing with the global amount of pain causes a feeling of being powerless, instead of inciting to act in a local perspective. PETA is one of those groups that continually reinforce the notion that it neither matters, nor pays off, and that's why I consider PETA and their kind to be a serious threat to animal welfare. For them to start playing the sex card instead would be a very good thing. Health, al-Aswad.
