I carry most of the time. While I am prepared to use my gun if I need to, I have also familiarized myself with the laws regarding justifiable use of a firearm. I would not want to be prosecuted for shooting someone in a situation where the law doesn't find it justified.

Is that the only reason for not shooting someone?
Fuck me sideways, surely shooting someone has nothing to do with the law? You are either in a life and death situation or you are not?
I just love the idea that being prosecuted or not is a prominent thought when you decide to kill someone, fucking brilliant

Nitpick? Defensive much?

Hey, its cool if you want to post something that's false.

If stricter gun laws would keep guns from the hands of CRIMINALS---and presumably those of you who carry for non-work reasons are protecting yourselves from them?--then okay. I just don't think that will happen.

My friends that had that big gun collection... well, really, does any citizen NEED assault rifles? Yes, hubby was ex-Marine, but EX, not ready to face all comers. All their stuff was licensed, and the ammo kept somewhere else, and of course all locked away, but really, who needs that stuff?

Oh, those end-of-the-world survival types, right.

In response to this, I will quote a post I already posted in this thread, but you obviously missed:

I understand what you are saying Hotch.  However, there was a situation in my county a couple of weeks ago, where a drunk 29 yo man wandered up to a rural home at about 12:30 in the AM.  Scared the bejesus out of the homeowner, no doubt.  What happened next is still under investigation, and the homeowner is not talking, but the end result is that the homeowner shot and killed the drunk.  The drunk was outside the home, apparently in the driveway.  The prosecutors' office is reviewing the case for prosecution of the homeowner.  Like I said, there are many facts yet to come out.  Obviously, the HO would have been completely justified if the drunk had forced his way into the house, but the fact that he was still outside makes it a little iffy legally.  Obviously,. the HO was afraid, but was his fear justified?

No thanks, I don't need a hassle with the law in my life.  Obviously, I wouldn't shoot anyone either unless I felt my life was in danger.  But I also don't want there to be any questions about the circumstance.  The drunk's family is all up in arms, and the newspaper printed the HO's address.  I wouldn't want to be in his shoes.
Perhaps the Homeowner in this scenario did feel he was in a life or death situation.  If the intruder had been standing in his living room, it would have been a no brainer, and the prosecutor would have had little interest.  As it is, the prosecutor is investigating.    Since the intruder was outside, the homeowner has to convince the prosecutor that he was in fear of his life, AND that the fear was reasonable.  If the prosecutor isn't convinced, he may well bring charges.  So yes, cyber, the law does enter into it, whether you understand that or not.

I LOVED it when you said "I just love the idea that being prosecuted or not is a prominent thought when you decide to kill someone".  Ummm, isn't the law supposed to act as a deterrent?  Apparently not in "hardy world".  Well, fuck me sideways, who knew?

I find it hard to believe that there is NO FARMER anywhere in the UK that doesn't have a shotgun loaded with rock salt at the ready by the kitchen door.
