Initial reports from sources suggested that an ABC News camera was also prevented from taping the hearing; ABC has since denied that they sent a crew to the hearing."

I think they would have a hard time claiming that credentialled press in a public building covering a meeting of public officials that doesn't involve military secrets is trespassing. You might want to break out that old copy of the constitution out. The officials in question appear to be wiping their ass with it. there's a little thing called "Sunshine Laws" that the congressional members appear to be breaking in this one.

If a police officer pulls be over and screams at me and I follow his orders but ask for his badge number I have broken no law. He may very well arrest and charge me with "resisting arrest" but those are just charges. A court of law is who determines if I broke a law or not.

He would be routinely detained till all the parties he might be likely to "have words" with have left for the day and then released. #1 There is no statute that proscribes "arrest" or any penalty to the press asserting the 1st amendment at am PUBLIC Hearing... and in truth... It's rather routine for a committee chairman to make a remark about removing the press for VARIOUS reasons. What's remarkable here is that ONE member in good standing as a video journalist was singled out and forcefully removed. It's pretty ugly behavior, and it's a pity more don't see things your way..

From what I read the crew, as others did, must apply for permission to film which they did not, or at least was not filed in time… They could have been present without their cameras and taken all the notes and reported as they pleased….But they showed up with cameras and refused to leave…so they were arrested. What is so wrong about this story? The camera laws apply through all offices of government and should be followed. I will agree that the denial may have been politically motivated and wrong but certainly not against the Constitution. Butch
