The United States has sent some 12,000 soldiers to Libya, in the first phase of deployments to the oil-rich North African nation.

Not sure this is accurate. We may need to wait a little while before this is confirmed

NO BLOOD FOR OIL!

That's a new, nifty and cool slogan isn't it?

Will all my politically active friends join me in the first protests on the Capitol steps, chanting it, waving American flags draped in blood while we try to get this Bushitler bastard out of office before the 2008 election?

Oh, wait ... time warp.  None of that will happen.  The great majority of the "peace protesters" and that crowd will be amazingly quiescent and lethargic.  It's "humanitarian assistance" or some sort of ingenious redefinition of "is" again.

Thank gawd for Glenn Greenwald.  I know that there is at least one "leftie" that has actual principles.

Firm, your standards are sliping my friend, normally you only deal in facts not this Prison Planet B/s.

I seriously doubt you think the OP is factual any more than I do.

This is a perfect example of the double standard of the liberal news media. This won't be on CNN, MSNBC,NBC,ABC,PBS or CBS anytime soon. It will be on the fair and balanced FOX network though..

It is laughable that anyone could think the "liberal media" could hide such an event.

What some of you Republicans forget is that other nations would be all over this like a rash, but no, the "Liberal news media" has the world duped.

I did a quick search and this website is an Iranian site. That's not to say that it's wrong; just that I know nothing about it.

The closest thing I can find to this (on a "trusted/known' site) is an old (APR 2011) USA Today article about the US sending 12 (twelve) military personal to help the four that were previously sent to help clean up the US embassy. This doesn't sound like the start of a military deployment to me.

Could the oil field owners have employed US "security" (That's pronounced "mercenaries" for those of you in Poughkeepsie) companies to come and protect their property? That seems a bit more likely.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Not really, polite.

I didn't think it was true ... while I don't have a TV, I generally read a sampling of Google News in the morning, and Treasure reads the NYTs, and we'd certainly noticed something like this.

I was just channeling a certain group of  leftie true believers, who jumped at any chance to make a noise about how ebil the US is ... when there is a Republican in the Oval Office.

http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20120119/local/embassy-denies-claim-of-us-troop-presence-in-malta.402880

The US Embassy in a single line statement this morning reiterated the Maltese government's statement categorically denying claims that there are US troops in Malta.
The government's statement was issued two days ago after former US Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney said in a blog that "12,000 U.S. troops (are) stationed in Malta and they are about to make their descent into Libya".

Cynthia McKinney, a peace activist and a US Presidential nominee for the Green Party, made the statement on her blog http://allthingscynthiamckinney.posterous.com under the headline: Why Is President Obama Sending 12,000 US Troops To Libya?

She said she received the information from foreign media publications and "Libyan sources" but later added that she hoped it was wrong.

"The allegations are completely false," the government had said in its statement.
Ms McKinney has opposed the US's military intervention in Libya and has accused Nato and her country of trying to assassinate Muammar Gaddafi.

Well, hell, Firm.  I was ready to take a week off work and join you in DC for this important protest until you your last couple of sentences.  Of course, there can be no blood for oil.  It was wrong when Bush sent troops into Iraq and it continues to be wrong.  NO MATTER WHO IS IN OFFICE!!!

Thanks for saving me the trouble.

Quite interesting to recall some of the various perspectives emanating from the looney Right over Libya in the last year or so .... From memory, they include:
the looney Right was whinging when the US didn't invade Libya, when the US did 'invade' Libya, about why Obama was giving Libya to Islamists and now apparently about why are US troops being deployed there ... just to list a few.

....And a few people still wonder why it's called the looney Right ......?

I agree, it needs to be confirmed. Although, it would be a logical move. Libya oil (not people, of course) needs some protection. We know CIA brought in Al Qaeda to fight Qaddafi, they are somewhat unpredictable and difficult to control.  I guess the oil companies will cover the cost.

Now, here is the stupidity of some people.

This.. woman... is supposed to have us believe she has insider knowledge.

Note her blog.. the date on said blog being 1-21-2012

Last week, I reported on numerous reports that I had read indicating that U.S. troops were on the island of Malta waiting for the word to deploy to Libya. If the above reports are correct, then it would appear that that word has been given. Interestingly, the reports of U.S. troops were reported in several African, Libyan, and Russian online sites, yet there was no response from either Malta or the U.S. In fact, the Russian site za-afriku.ru as late as 19 January 2012 wrote, "The administration of the United States still has not refuted a lot of messages in various MEDIA for the transfer of 12000 troops on Malta as a preliminary step to the further redeployment in Libya in order to control the deteriorating situation in the country."

http://allthingscynthiamckinney.posterous.com/

Note the date on the story from the Times of Malta....

Yep, another nut case who has suckered people in.
