I would like to know from Firefox users if there is any way to have the formating 
[b] [/b]
commands show, when you click on "quote" to answer a post.

The 
[quote] [/quote]
commands show but none of the other formatting remains.

Any help for a dyed-in-the-wool IE user?

Status: offline 		Yo, CC programmers, how about standardizing so we get the same options cross browsers? Overall, for me the options are best in Opera but I like Firefox's ability to use Control B to bold, which gives me bookmarks in Opera.

Michael, for now, if you insist on sticking with IE, may I suggest you use the Quote button and replace "quote" with "b."

Status: offline 		You mis-understand. I want to use FF but, I want the ability to change the formatting. If it is not possible to do so in FF, I will have to continue to use the (allegedly) inferior IE.

I am using Firefox 9.0.1 and the text formatting commands toolbar is functioning.  The only thing my Firefox doesn't display that IE has is the image toolbar.  I have to insert those commands as inline text. As a note, for simple bold, italics and underline commands, I just use the keyboard short cuts (ctrl + b, crtl + i, ctrl + u).

If I am quoting a bit of text that is already bolded or italicized or whatever, I am not able to see the commands inside the 
[]


I can't change that coding (if I wish to).

In other words, when I click on "Quote" for my post #4, using FF, I can't make the word "want" not bolded. I'm guessing the same thing would happen if I hit "Edit" but, that's not the issue. I want to be able to highlight or "un"-highlight stuff that I quote from other people.

Status: offline 		Possibly not so much a lack of clarity as just having some ingrained expectations of how to apply formatting that differ from the way things work. Unlike most other browser/OS pairings here, Firefox on Windows displays formatted text rather than raw PGD Code markup when quoting a post – but the lack of visible format tags doesn't mean you can't change the formatting. As others have pointed out, you simply select the text you want to modify and apply or remove formatting as desired using the GUI toolbar or standard formatting keyboard shortcuts, like Control-B. It's a different method than manually editing code tags, but as demonstrated in the attached proof, it should work. Hope that helps clear things up a bit.

Status: offline 		I may be beating a dead horse here, but two points.

Highlighting bolded text, then touching the Bold Key, unbolds the bolded text. Touching the key again rebolds the text. The fact is that Firefox does not display the tags. The tags are still there and work just as before. The tags are just not displayed. They are handled via a (durmroll) non-graphic user interface. In this respect, Firefox is not GUI.

Point two. Recently, I have noted that Firefox has grown quite large. Sufficiently large to pose a challenge to my 3 Gigahertz, 1 Gigabyte, twin core Pentium 4. I have noted that Chrome, despite an interesting tendency to reiterate in the "Process" list, carries a MUCH lighter footprint. This has allowed mt to regain lost performance (Mouse Wheel) while delaying a $40 expense to triple my RAM. (if someone has a couple gig sticks of PC-3200 lying around...)
