Who knows.

The whole place has entered the twilight zone.

Anything is possible.

tazzygirl -> RE: Why moderator nicks? (1/14/2012 9:14:18 AM)

Nope.. it was here all along.

I wonder if they make a brain detector. We could make a killing off of finding brains instead of junk jewelry.

LaTigresse -> RE: Why moderator nicks? (1/14/2012 9:17:28 AM)

Assuming of course, that there are brains to be found......or that you would want to find...

tazzygirl -> RE: Why moderator nicks? (1/14/2012 9:20:28 AM)

I often question my own sanity, so you have a good point there.

But, on second thought, people who have lost their brains wont remember if they want them back or not...

Goldmine!

barelynangel -> RE: Why moderator nicks? (1/14/2012 9:22:49 AM)

I want my brain, i liked my brain -- we was friends [:o]

LaTigresse -> RE: Why moderator nicks? (1/14/2012 9:31:53 AM)

We, my brain and I, have a complex relationship.

Although not nearly as frustrating a one as my morals and I have

Yahtzee!

barelynangel -> RE: Why moderator nicks? (1/14/2012 10:49:41 AM)

Okay Mummyman that is SOO not nice!

Do not feed the gullibility of someone who is questioning herself and whether or not her brain is playing tricks on her, if she even has her brain today lol -- she may believe you.

mnottertail -> RE: Why moderator nicks? (1/14/2012 10:50:38 AM)

I see we need to use the metric wrenches in that cumbucket you call a brain, it isnt SAE in there.

hausboy -> RE: Why moderator nicks? (1/14/2012 10:51:24 AM)

I belong to another forum-- no moderator-- and for awhile, it was just plain nasty and vicious--beyond name calling, it came down to threats of violence towards one another, and there actually IS the possibility many of us will meet others from the list at some point at events (not a kink/sex forum...it's for a totally separate hobby)  Anyhow, I don't if it was because a lot of the regulars got fed up and left....or the bullies got bored....but now things have settled down TOO much and the forum host's biggest effort now is focusing on reducing inactive uses and reducing spam.

I really do respect the mods for doing as much as they do--all volunteer--and I think this forum would be a total nasty free-for-all if we didn't have them.

Well, I did put the devil icon up as a hint :)

barelynangel -> RE: Why moderator nicks? (1/14/2012 11:07:28 AM)

Mummyman, laughs, yes.  But just for an instant i was like YES!! I am not crazy.  THEN i saw the damn devil lol.

Hey Ron, don't blame me, i tried to explain a long time ago lol.  People just don't listen when i tell them.  Geesh.

LadyPact -> RE: Why moderator nicks? (1/14/2012 12:13:12 PM)

I said this over on Fet, so I may as well say it here, too.  I actually happen to agree with some of the possible reasons that Mods have.... well, Mod nicks.  I think I'm even more convinced of it now than I was before, due to the recent developments and/or revelations that have come to light.

A couple of years back, there was one poster who got himself in trouble with the Mods and got himself a time out.  Honestly, his nick was pretty darn accurate, because he really was a bit nuts.  From what I saw, I have to say that if that guy had the ability to know where Alpha lived, etc and just happened to be from the same location, I could definitely see him being the type to follow through on the threats that he made.

Yeah, that's rare and it's a pretty big "if" but really, it would only take one.  I know that Alpha probably isn't afraid of such things, but that guy in particular would have made Me scared for her if he really knew who she was or had the ability to use her real info to track her down.

I had a couple of people tell Me that I was paranoid for even thinking that was possible, but <shrug> who knows?  All it would ever take is to piss off the wrong person.

Fornica -> RE: Why moderator nicks? (1/14/2012 12:35:41 PM)

That part, I totally get, and hadn't thought of (the personal safety aspect).
Makes sense. And I don't think it's being paranoid.

LaTigresse -> RE: Why moderator nicks? (1/14/2012 12:46:35 PM)

Me either.

There are a lot of people on here I wouldn't want to see walking down my lane.

Although it might be in their best interest rather than mine.......[;)]

Spot on darlin. When I was "outted" on another site, that was the first thing I was worried about, because my real nick has my real pic , real geographic location etc. I do actually get an even amount of love AND hate mail, but there HAVE been a few that I knew were dead serious if they could ever find me.

ABout my hair, it actually was almost exactly like that when I was younger and now has some other tones (grey among others ) mixed in. That figure I have not had in a long time, but RS actually hit pretty close to what my body looked like when I was VERY young, (bit bigger ass in real life but bewbage and hair spot on). However, wouldnt you expect since I'm 99?

Edit: By the way, I turned 100 today but can't update my age......:)

Awareness -> RE: Why moderator nicks? (1/14/2012 4:58:29 PM)

I don't see a problem here, merely an aspect of doing what needs to be done.  You can't operate with any kind of honesty or independence if everyone knows who you are.  There will always be those who try and exploit whatever relationships moderators have with posters - whether positive or negative - to influence them one way or the other.  And that would be completely untenable.

On the flip side, yes there is a danger that moderators will behave without integrity towards particular posters they dislike, however it's easier to try and manage and monitor the integrity of half a dozen or so volunteers than it is trying to monitor the integrity of hundreds, if not thousands, of posters interacting with them.  Thus, anonymity is essential.

mummyman321 -> RE: Why moderator nicks? (1/14/2012 5:09:26 PM)

LP & VAA you are both dead on. No one should have to worry about being in danger due to a disgruntled idiot.

I used to work as a bar tender in the late 80's. I loved the work. It was fun and good money really. But leaving the bar at 3am to find some asshole waiting for you because you refused to serve him a drink or getting to your car to find your tires slashed or windows broken was not worth it. The people on CM who make threats to the mods, you have no idea if they are serious, drunk, stoned, high, or just batshit crazy.

No one should have to look over their shoulder because they volunteer their time as a mod.
