I'm teaching myself how to make chain maille jewelry. I might try to start selling it. Making money would make me very happy, lol.

that would be a good way to kill two birds with one stone.. use a happy light to light up you and your work table as you make your chain..

I really like this idea

MDA~ I would LOVE that. Seriously. We will make that happen.

This thread is awesome. I need to do the suggestions given. Happy lights, get off my ass, and I really like the idea of a crafty hobby..I used to do lots of things like that, and have gotten away from it.
<3 to you all!

It would be kinkier if he was looking at a dog.

From interracial to inter-species?  Is that the real answer to "why must the dog chase the cat?"  . . . to hump it?

You can get a light box for seasonal affectiveness disorder or you can take a Vitamin D III 5000 IU pill daily. And of course, if there is sun, get out in that without sunscreen on your hands and face for 20 minutes daily. Sunscreen blocks your ability to make Vitamin D.

If it's not too miserably cold I go for a walk at lunch. Just a quick half an hour speed walk around, up and down. It gets me through the day better.

Me too - I often have to force myself but am glad during and afterwards.

Yep, exercise outside rocks. Off to the beach now - toodles!

If you belong to a health club or the local YMCA swimming is great to get you out of that frozen state of mind. It works for me. The only downfall is leaving and my wet feet seem to stick to the frozen pavement in the parking lot.

I used to get depressed in the fall.  Why?  Because I knew winter was right behind it and I HATED winter.  Moving and travel wasn't an option.

Then about 12 or 13 years ago I dated a lady that enjoyed both alpine and Nordic skiing.  So, I took up snow skiing.  I bought skis, boots, and poles at thrift stores and spent less than $20 for equipment.  The one thing I didn't go the thrift store route on, though, was ski clothes...especially a ski coat.  I knew if I got too cold I wouldn't enjoy it.

That first season I pretty much taught myself, and the next season I did invest in some lessons.  I can't ski now because of my back problems, but finding winter activities that I enjoyed stopped my intense hatred of winter weather.

The other suggestions I've seen here have all been good, but I would add the idea of finding some kind of winter activity that you enjoy and go for it.  Snow skiing, snowmobiling, ice skating, snow shoeing, ice fishing, or whatever.  If you can find a winter activity you enjoy you will start looking forward to winter instead of dreading it.

I have bipolar disorder and I tend to have long, drawn-out depressive episodes in the winter, so I suppose that's very similar to SAD. It becomes very tiring to have to always be adjusting my medication, and I don't much like the idea of relying entirely on a pill (or several different kinds of pills at once, all to counteract the side effects of the others ugh ugh), so I've been trying to make a habit of coming up with other methods of alleviating my depression.

Getting out of the house is definitely a big one. Wallowing is never good. If you find that you have social anxiety, try going somewhere a little quieter- a small bookstore, maybe just for a walk, etc.
Seeing friends is important as well, though. I find that without human contact, I end up festering a lot and that's definitely not a good thing for depression. Even if it's just inviting a couple friends over for a movie night. That will also give you a good excuse to clean, if you're like me and end up letting everything get pretty messy and grody when you're depressed.
Speaking of cleaning, it's a big help to keep things neat and bright in your house, as your environment tends to have a big impact on what the inside of your head looks like (just from my experience, I'm no professional or anything.)
Having plants to water and take care of is also nice.
Something that always makes me feel better is cooking a nice healthy meal where I have to chop up a lot of veggies and stuff.
If it's sunny, brave the cold for a bit every day to let the sun get on your face and soak in and stuff, sunlight is nice and wonderful.
When in doubt, make some hot chocolate and curl up with a good book. That's my go-to option when there's just too much goshdern cold-ass snow outside and it won't go away.
[:D]
