They worked at his residence as trustees.
One had been denied parole 2 weeks ago.

Only political consequences...and he is an out-going governor.

The pardons outraged victims' relatives as well as Democratic lawmakers, who called for an end to the custom of governors' issuing such end-of-tenure pardons.

"Serving your sentence at the Governor's Mansion where you pour liquor, cook and clean should not earn a pardon for murder," Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley, a Democrat, posted Monday on his Facebook page.

Having been at the arse end of a parolees desire for release. I can understand the cons willing to do what it takes to get out of prison before his time.

The outcry from the right is deafening.........

Guess this means Halely has decided not to run for POTUS......................EVER.

The number is actually 8 killers........I guess that means 4 weren`t 1st degree murder.

Well, I guess this isn't the time/place to espouse my support for the death penalty but, I will say that the inmates guilty of cold-blooded murder should have been executed instead of set free.

I believe that there are some crimes for which there is no way to rehabilitate the offenders. If you are capable of cold-blooded murder, you will never be a decent member of society (IMO).

DS, do you see the possibility that signing off on a call for restoration of the death penalty with the aspiration "Peace and comfort" is just a little incongruous, just a tiny bit contradictory?

I have no problem with the pardons. They were in custody for a long time, longer than the murderer of one of my friends who will be released this year after eight years in prison (sentence was 12 years; on good behavior the sentence is reduced by one third; may he be eaten by gnats). The people in charge will have gotten a good look into their psychology, and of course they were not selected for the position of trustee at random. They may even secretly have served their country or some secret organization meanwhile, possibly by committing more murders as ordered, earning their pardon in this way.

One of then had ben denied probation 2 weeks ago. The people in charge got a good look at his psychology and said "HELL NO".

Did you even bother to read the fucking article? One of them shot a woman with her baby in her arms and the baby laid on her DEAD body.
Another put a gun to the head of a man coming to him for aid and pulled the trigger.

This piece of shit turned 'em loose because they worked for him.

Theres only one chap I feel sorry for
and that is Nathan Kern, sentenced to life in 1982 for burglary after at least two prior convictions.Im guessing that was a three strikes case?

30 years is a long time for a robbery.

RULE
Murder. If you are using YOUR friends murderers case as a "rule" as to how long a murderer should serve, I would take it up with your lawmakers. 11 years is NOT long for a murder sentence, and neither should it be. (Anthony McCray, convicted in 2001)
Manslaughter? accidental, or depending on mitigating circumstances is one thing, but 12 years is NOT long enough, especially when sentenced to LIFE

Edited to add, in NO WAY am I saying Kearns should NOT be punished for his crimes. 30 years should be given to rapists, pedes, killers, armed robbers and yes even robbery perps depending on the circumstances.

Well, one thing you can take from this is
Barbour is never running for president.
I'm assuming these men were all sentenced
to life and not given the death penalty.
I'm opposed to the death penalty and if these
were cases where they were sentenced
to death and given reprieves of life sentences
I would have supported it.
I have no issue with Nathan Kern being pardoned.
Thirty years and good behavior is enough
for a robbery. He wasn't convicted of killing
anyone.
I remember the Gatlin case. I don't think that
guy should be walking around free.
The other two cases from what can be
ascertained from the article straight
forward examples of cold blooded murder.
I would guess it is very likely one or more
of them will commit a crime again and be
sent back to prison. I hope the crime that
sends them back isn't murder.
A governor stopping a execution is one thing
but releasing convicted murderers
just cause you want to is messed up.
It would also be different to an extent if
the reasons for the releases were based
on a review of their cases and believing they
were wrongfully convicted. Though that's
what appeals are for.
And how creepy is it that murderers make
the best household staff? Adds a twist to the
excitement one would get from an invitation
to dine at the governors mansion.
