Okay this is a new issue that has cropped up and is driving me insane.Seems that I can only get a signal if the tower on the house PC is on...which is most annoying as the towers hums(not my pc so don't criticise). Why would this be?
What can I do to fix this problem,I've checked all the connections.....and as I said when the tower is turned on the router works fine and gives off a strong signal....though every once and awhile I must unplug the whole shooting match to reboot?
Any suggestions would be welcome.

check your router what kind of signal is sending
AP = Acces Point
or
W
or
G

make sure you selcet the W or G or even N option & not the AP,
if you have to you can reset your router & re do it again 70 % will solove that,

any other info would be great to deal with since i do not what is the thing you called "tower", i wounder if you talking about the anttena.
& what kind of WiFi adapter you use for the PC, some will suck the signal & some take some & give some..

The "tower" is basically the actual PC...or more specifically the cpu of the stationary(as opposed to the laptop) desktop computer.

Can you clarify? I saw later you mentioned WiFi signal and that the tower was a desktop PC--which confuses me because above you say the tower ON the desktop PC is on.. What does that mean? How exactly are you set up/configured there?

I have no answer for Mike's problem, but...

He apparently has a desktop computer that is an upright tower and his laptop.  The router for his internet is not working unless the desktop (stationary) computer is on.  He wants the router for the internet to work independently of the desktop computer.

Perhaps that will help you guys diagnose the problem.

Mike, I've done some exhaustive research on this, analyzed all the cans and can'ts.....here's what I've found:

Your system is fucked up.

(I'm here to help).

Mike, so it worked before and now is just starting to act up? I wouldn't put it passed tw to have done something so that you would have to work from their router at the extra cost of.... They won't help with your router. The only tech work on that sort of situation is done if you have their router. After buying a router a couple years ago and all that hell... never again bs... I am going with their router next time.

I wonder if it is the router going bad or maybe even your cable box.

I had huge problems with being online and then cut off... went through many boxes... all new wires... about three years of bs and finally after proving they lied a number of times.. I haven't been cut off in months.

Good luck with them and the situation.
