It's not their pronunciation of English, which I agree it's a nice accent.. It's the way things are said. The slang, idioms, et cetera. Sometimes I do think that because they are often so fluent in the pronunciation of English, we native English speakers often forget that the culture and slang is still very different. As an IT tech with an established NPO/NGO, I deal with many people who are truly amazing in their knowledge and skills, but come from Asian and Middle Eastern countries. Sometimes it is hard to take them seriously when they say something that to my American ears, just sounds silly. Couple this with the fact that many Americans misuse many words, while many foreigners take pains to correctly use each word according to it's precise dictionary definition rather than the more common usage.. I remember once time replying to an apologetic email from a coworker whom made a mistake, I said "It's cool, we got it fixed." She replied in confusion asking what I meant by it being cold. Makes me wonder how she'd reply if I told her I though she was hot.. o.O
So from my perspective, and taking this in to account, I think the OP was asking a truly genuine question. More so if, like you pointed out, such topics are generally viewed as taboo and frowned upon in their general community because BDSM is often linked with pornography.. Where is he to go to get such information? I do not have the answers he seeks however, so I just gave a quip about the Google results.
Although I have often wondered about such things in a more general sense and think it would be a great discussion here.. In countries/cultures where men are generally "superior" (not sure I want to use that word here, but..) and women are expected to serve men, how does the dynamics of BDSM and related ideologies really fit in? I know a lot of submissive men from such cultures and very few dominant men, which does not seem to fit the expected stereotype. Of the women, however, I know almost equal numbers of dommes, subs, and switches. At least among those who've come here to America which are not vanilla.
