DarthVaderOfLove -> I just googled my CM profile. I didn't know that was possible. (12/30/2011 9:26:43 PM)

I googled my name, a name that people I know could probably guess I was using, and my picture and CM profile and text popped up on google. So I came in here and unchecked the "keep me logged in" button and it still worked. Why is that? Would it not stand to reason that anonymity would be a good idea in here? From outside the site I googled others in here too. I did a couple searches and found no information. Would like to know if any of you know of a way to prevent what is in here from being googled from the outside. Hopefully this is just some deal I never heard of and only I am seeing this stuff. Thanks

Welcome to a public website. Perhaps a new profile, with a less recognizable screen name would be in order?

Soyokaze -> RE: I just googled my CM profile. I didn't know that was possible. (12/30/2011 9:37:02 PM)

Collarme is not fully in control who how google indexes the internet. There might be ways for them to stop it although I'm really not that well read in the subject to know.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: I just googled my CM profile. I didn't know that was possible. (12/30/2011 9:37:58 PM)

What you do on a public website will likely be googable on any website, if you don't want to run that risk, make a name nobody can guess very well it's you and don't put up pics.

the nets not anonymous safe.

Wow, I would've figured for a site of this nature that could've been prevented. Thanks. i'll probably change the name.

Here's what i put: DarthVaderOfLove CollarMe what came up was my profile and several threads from this forum, mixed in with other darth vader related links. so far, i have closed my account twice, but it won't go away. i'll restart my computer and google the name again and it will bring me back here, logged in, regardless of how many times i have deleted the account or signed out. it's no big deal, i just wish i'd known. i'd have used a different name and pic.

tj444 -> RE: I just googled my CM profile. I didn't know that was possible. (12/30/2011 10:35:49 PM)

i signed out and then googled someone elses profile name but what came up was the log in page. I tried yours and i got the page where you can sign with just your initials (not your log in name and password) so only the basics are displayed but no pics (i am guessing you removed them?).

My profile is hidden right now so it goes to the log in page only.

Have you cleared your cache? try hiding your profile, then google and see what happens..

make sure you have signed out too, if you forget then that could also be why your page has come up.

DesFIP -> RE: I just googled my CM profile. I didn't know that was possible. (12/30/2011 10:45:13 PM)

Once you click the delete profile button you have to not check on it for about a week. Because when you come back to see if you can still sign on, that keeps it active.

well...I just googled it that way, and I found myself.

Are people around you going to look for you in conjunction with this site?

I mean...

People equate the name DarthVaderofLove with you offline? That is so awesome. Now I'm curious.

MistressDarkArt -> RE: I just googled my CM profile. I didn't know that was possible. (12/31/2011 1:11:18 AM)

I googled my screen name too and it came up with links to my profile as well as links to several journal and collarchat entries. It also came up with a link to my partner's profile which has 'in service to MistressDarkArt' on it, so it's finding him also.

An interesting side-note: I've tineyed some folks' profile pictures and they show up as being on collarme as well with a link to their profile.

Eeeeeep!

Snort -> RE: I just googled my CM profile. I didn't know that was possible. (12/31/2011 2:19:08 AM)

Well, I googled myself and came up with a video ad for Snort That Cum 5 on collarme.

Apparently, I'm nothing more than a spam keyword...

VaguelyCurious -> RE: I just googled my CM profile. I didn't know that was possible. (12/31/2011 2:21:10 AM)

FR

Sometimes I think people ought not to be allowed to use the internet without passing some kind of exam.

Search engines index CM, including the forums and including images. They also index informedconsent, although I don't think they index images any more. They index twitter (although I don't think they index private accounts.) They index OKCupid according to permission given or not given by each discrete user. They do not index fetlife. They index the public parts of your facebook profile, but not whatever you've got set to private (so if you image-search your full real name then your facebook profile picture is likely to come up, but not other random facebook images of you unless they've been set to public and you've been tagged in them.)

Seriously. You people use these sites without knowing this shit? You're supposed to be responsible adults. Take some responsibility for your own internet usage.

As for things disappearing off google? When you search something on google it doesn't actually go through the whole internet looking for it at that precise second. It consults indexes, which it builds up by constantly trawling the internet. It trawls quickly but not instantaneously. It might therefore take a while to get back to your bit of the internet and notice that your page isn't there any more.

(And it would be pretty easy for CM to block search engines, as it happens. All it takes is a robots.txt file. Information here: http://www.webconfs.com/what-is-robots-txt-article-12.php )

Now consider switching your computers off until you can be bothered to learn what they actually do.

<Ed for typos. New computer, new keyboard. My fingers are confused.>

Ooh! There's an Internet exam? Are there self help books to get me prepared? Do I need to know my IP?

Delilya -> RE: I just googled my CM profile. I didn't know that was possible. (12/31/2011 3:03:25 AM)

You can google a ton of information about yourself. You would probably be shocked how much is available online.

stellauk -> RE: I just googled my CM profile. I didn't know that was possible. (12/31/2011 3:04:49 AM)

Yeah, and...? So what?

What is it with people that they have to be so focussed on what other people who they don't know are doing?

The people I know in life know me, they know where to find me, and I doubt would ever think to google me.

If they do, so what?

The rest? What does it matter? I mean, it's not like any of us are that important.

And in the odd exception that you are, shouldn't you have thought about this before setting up an account?

FrostedFlake -> RE: I just googled my CM profile. I didn't know that was possible. (12/31/2011 5:49:41 AM)

Since the spelling of my name was corrected, I am no longer unique. And Frosted Flake, obviously.

But even if I was easily searchable, someone would have to want to do it... Is that an issue?
